System Crashes When Running OCCT

CineBench and 3D Mark also stress video cards. Using CPUID HW test during testing time can tell you temperature and voltage readings at the moment computer freezes or restarts.

    Hi,

Just to update on this issue, I have done a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and OCCT has been running for 11 hours now without issue. If all other stress test programs pass under Windows 7 then is it most likely to be a Windows 8 issue?

Its crashed again even with Windows 7 so I am now going to send the card back to Gigabyte for further testing.

Has to be something wrong since your system seem to be nicely balanced.

    Hi,

Please can you advise if the volts and temps look ok? This is what the readings were when the system froze. I know the timings are not right but I just reset the BIOS to defaults again, the freezing happens even with the correct memory timings. Although that test was not testing the GPU the system froze just the same with my old CPU which was an AMD 1090T. I've also swapped out the memory, motherboard and HDD so this now leaves the GPU or PSU.

If those readings with OCCT are right, voltages (12v, 5v and 3.3v) are on low side but within ATX specs. Only max CPU temperature is high at 65c. should be under 62c at maximum, with about 55c ideal. As I suspected CPU Vcore ( CPU voltage) should be 1.42v. Now we come to tricky part, with lover voltage, CPU temperature should be lover, not higher. Are you sure you mounted cooler right using good thermal transfer paste ? Which CPU cooler are you using, if stock one, it's fan should be screaming at much faster speed, 3000 rpm and over, not 1400 as it's showing in BIOS. If that's true too, it might explain high max CPU temperature.
For accuracy use CPUID HW Monitor at the same time, just to compare readings.

    Hi,

I agree the temps are a bit high, I am using the Corsair H50 Cooler with the below fans. I have disabled all fan speed control in the BIOS so that the fans should be running at full speed all the time. At idle the system is 30c and normally does reach 60c under-load. Room temp at the moment is 22c. When I used OCCT on my AMD 1090T this reported a speed of 50c when under-load. Would you be able to recommend some alternative fans that run at a higher speed?

I know that the Corsair H50 does not allow much headroom for overclocking the CPU but I am not looking to do that at the moment, I just want to get the system stable.

When testing with the stock cooler I got temps of 73c.

On friend's computer with almost the same MD (UD7) 8350 is running comfortable 4.7 GHz with air cooling from Cooler Master 612 Evo air cooler and temperatures under 60c maximum. Maybe you should consider putting one more fan, on the other side of radiator in push - pull configuration it should double the air flow. Case fans are not exactly suitable for water cooling, you need fans with high pressure with airflow being secondary. Can you confirm that water pump is running full speed too ? H50 is not the best cooling system but should be fine at stock CPU speeds, at least as good as mid range air coolers. That paste of yours is pretty good one, I used it on multiple applications and anyway there's barely couple of degrees difference between good and best pastes, so it should not be a large factor if applied properly.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your response,

I should point out that I have the Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2 motherboard now and not the 990FX UD5 I will update my sig now to reflect this sorry about that.

When I had the UD5 I got multiple BSOD's which shown in my thread below in the BSOD section of the forums. Since changing the mobo to the sabertooth 990fx r2 I've not had any BSOD's just freezing.

The freezing initially happened when I was running Heaven Benchmark on the GPU using the UD5 board so that points back to the GPU possibility being at fault.

As far as I am aware the radiator is running at full speed how can I check this? As I have disabled all auto fan controls in the BIOS to force the system to run that at the highest speed possible.

DPC Watchdog Violation Windows 8.1 Pro

I have a few spare fans lying around so I will try these and at the same re-apply the thermal paste I linked to above and see if there is any difference in the temps.

Pump should have same connection as fans or at least 3pin configuration so it should show as fan speed in BIOS and test program. If all fans are set to maximum speed than the pump should be too.
Still, even if you suspect GPU it would be good idea to maximize CPU cooling too. Don't forget chipset temps too, I had heck of a time too cool down north bridge on my MB, As I was pushing my system to the limit VRM temperature was an issue too.
