Doesn't Windows 8.1 support high resolution screens?

I have a laptop with a 3200 x 1800 screen and the toolbars and menus of Illustrator and Photoshop are nearly illegible due to their minuscule size. Indesign displays normally, as does Lightroom.

On the adobe forums, two entries - Adobe Community: Photoshop CC on a High DPI display on Windows 8.1 and Adobe Community: Photoshop CC / Windows 8.1 HiDPI / Retina scaling support - suggest this is due to Microsoft not supplying required APIs (whatever these are...).

I appreciate that 3200 x 1800 is still new, but over four months have passed since the posts on the adobe forums and the problem endures. Surely a giant such as Microsoft should already have that loophole closed? It is quite astounding that such an issue should even exist in the first place.

Anyone knows whether we can expect anything soon that will resolve this issue?

It is not Windows, it is your GPU, along with its drivers, that controls how it handles higher or lower resolution screens.

Scaling is not handled same in all applications and that's the problem that has to be handled by both, windows (M$) and particular software maker. There is few older programs that do not handle that well that i run into.

In order for the OP to do anything with a larger screen (ie Projector on say a 110" screen, or 60" Flat Screen), their GPU drivers have to be capable of allowing that resolution.

The scaling of the characters, is only partially handled by the software. The other part of the equation is that you have to have a GPU with drivers capable of giving you a clean image and rendering of anything being shown on that large screen.

OpenGL is the other part of the equation. Really need more information from the OP, regarding hardware they are using, what kind of video device they are using for what they are wanting to do, along with the software that they are having issues with.

Then maybe we can get a better resolution to their problem, then second guessing solutions.
