New laptop. Week old. Running smooth until now. Help?

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C55-A and it's been running really smoothly until now. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how I could speed it up a little bit? And if someone could tell me which programs to uninstall. Thanks a lot.

    You both 32 & 64 bit JAVA.

    I would remove:

    BitTorrent

    & Microsoft Office{unless it was paid for}.

Think of the programs you are seeing, as books sitting on the shelves in a library. All they are doing are taking up space. Only if you are actually running programs, then you may run into an issue that if you do not have enough RAM, you could see the computer slowing down.

The 64 bit installs require both 32-bit & 64-bit for Java. But if the OP is not running any programs, or going to any sites that require Java, it can probably be deleted.

Microsoft Office is most likely the freebie that comes with Windows. It can stay. BitTorrent, they would need if they are using it for downloading legal torrents.

Really need to know the exact model number, not just the series number, to know what unit they have. That series is a pretty robust one. It is not shy when it comes to certain units in that Series Line, having some serious horsepower.

The OP needs to either give us the whole model number, or give us a system screenshot with Speccy. That way we know what is really going on behind the scenes, and why they are stating that they are having issues.

Most likely it is as it came from Toshiba. 4GB of RAM, and if they went for the i3, or AMD E1 series chipset, that could be an issue.

Not exactly, not all of them. some require service/s to run all the time, using memory and processor time. When deciding which programs are or have resident status it's best to check with "Task Manager" to see what's going on there, if it is taking some memory, processor etc. Checking and disabling some of the Startup items that are not needed on continuous basis is also good idea. After using APPs, make sure they are completely closed.
