W8.1 Start screen search results not working

Hello,

I seem to be having an issue with results in start screen searches not working...

EG - If I type 'Windows Update' on the start screen I get the expected results but clicking on the result does nothing.

Pic 1 shows the results and if I click on the red circled result nothing happens. (same with others in list)
If I click on the green result Pic 2 opens and clicking on windows update again does nothing in this window.

Clicking on anything else in the results list that activates a program, works okay - IE, Office files etc.

If I go to Control Panel and search for windows update everything works.

Seems to be just windows settings... just from the start screen search...

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks again.

The advanced Security settings page indicated 'TrustedInstaller' as the owner.
I changed the owner to Administrator first to no avail then to me and made sure it was listed in the Permission Entries as shown in your example.

This allowed a change in that I can now get to the 'File History' page from the start screen search.
I then tried to get to 'Windows Update' as in the very first issue and again the permissions error pops up...

The PC is in use for a while now so I'll have to have a play over the next day or so - but any pointers in the meantime are appreciated.

A question if I may - Why is the error suggesting a permission issue with a drive that is a clone of C:\ ?
If the error related to C:\ I could see the issue... But D:\ ?

I use Casper XP to clone C:\ and have done for many years - The issue has been around for a few weeks now and I kept forgetting to sort so the issue would have been cloned also.:(

regards, Simon

I don't know. :(

I've had trouble with permissions.
After playing around a bit I usually get it to work.

Maybe someone else will pitch in & help. :)
