Windows 8 and 8.1 Forums

This will be Microsofts biggest ever flop, far bigger than Vista.

I am now running Win 8 without any apps in the Metro interface. After trying out several for the last two weeks, like the mail and calendar, photo apps, AND IE 10.

To me, they are truly a waste of time. First, their viewing experience is less than desirable and they don't have the flexibility of similar apps running in the Desktop. So far, the Metro experience is a complete fiasco, not only from the marketing point of view, but, in my view, as a way to run an application. I use FireFox and am curious to see what the people at Mozilla come up for Metro. If it's anything like IE10, it will suffer the same fate.

A Desktop browser has a flexibility people have gotten used to. IE10 did not improve on that. As a matter of fact, it went in the opposite direction.

    So long Metro.

Can't disagree with the first comment about the beef but I don't think Metro is a side issue. It's what user's are greeted with and whilst forum members may be prepared to play around for a while your 'normals' will not. It will be a look followed by a gasp unfortunately. Also of course the 'expert' media will take one look and give their 'expert' opinion. So think MS could have their work cut out but we live in hope that an alternative will be offered so they can cover their bases.

Windows 8 on ARM vs iPad: Has Microsoft lost already?

...it has quickly become apparent that the focus on tablets makes Microsoft’s Windows 8 difficult and frustrating to use for those running a Windows 7 or even a Window XP machine.

I don't know what timeframe you are talking about. But all of the programs I wrote in the 60's ended up on punch cards. And you needed muscle to carry those boxes with 2000 cards around. Sometimes a program was 3 boxes heavy. Those (and earlier systems) were the computers where they were run. See the card reader is in the center.
