I agree with you on that Microsoft should of made the metro for Tablets and left the desktop alone. This has made it very confusing for the casual user. For me it was not hard to understand the two differences. There is no reason to have touch support for a desktop. I would not use a touch monitor for a desktop.

Being mobile devices are a big part of out daily lives, I think Microsoft is trying to make the experience the same so if you go from the desktop to a mobile device or vice versa you know how to use it. Having a desktop version and a mobile version is just fine. The way you use the two are different so it makes sense to have two different versions of the OS. Having one OS for both does not make much sense to me at this point. I'm just trying to roll with the changes and make the best of it.

WHY ? If someone is comfortable with Windows 7, WHY he should sit and give a try to Widows 8, WHY ?
They don't. If someone is interested in upgrading to Windows 8 they need to try it for them selves and not rely on what other people are saying. If they are happy with Windows 7 and have no interest in upgrading then don't.

If a person is happy with Windows 7 and has no interest in upgrading probably won't be here on this forum. The only people I can see coming to this forum are people thinking of upgrading. Why else be here?

So when I said "Each person needs to sit down on a Windows 8 PC and give it a try.", I meant that towards people that are interested in Windows 8.

I'm sorry. What? Seriously? If you think this, how do you function in life when you have so many choices? What clothes to wear today, having to remember how to tie your shoes, oh my god.. which pedal in your car should you depress to accelerate? Oh my god! How do we function?

Seriously. That is one of the most ridiculous arguments I've ever heard. Out of all the choices I have to make today, which UI to use rates about a 0 on the complexity scale.

Besides. You *DON'T* have to remember which UI to use. You just click the freaking icon and it automatically goes to it.

Really? You seriously think none of the metro apps work to your standards? You're saying the weather app simply isn't functional? That Minesweeper is broken? That Netflix just doesn't work?

There are plenty of Metro apps that work just fine.

I am quite fond of my Galaxy SIII. So please don't put words in my mouth. If you have no intention of using Windows 8, why are you even here? Are we seriously supposed to take your opinion when you don't even use it?
I'm here because I have been in the computer industry (hardware and software) since 1967...yes 1967 and I like to keep up with the latest developments. I find it all fascinating and like to try new stuff (Fedora, Ubuntu, Android x86, etc) Always seem to come back to Windows, funny that.

Re Apps...guess what...I have no interest in Minesweeper or any games apps, and guess what -Netflix doesn't work in Australia.

Very happy with the separation of my Tablet and my PC. Both totally different UIs but on two totally different devices with different uses. Just think MS should have kept them separate.

I had the choice of doing a quick format or a clean wipe and knew beforehand that a clean wipe would take quite a while. I'm not complaining about that.

I removed Windows 8 and replaced it with Windows 7. I would return my copy of Windows 8 to Best Buy if I could, but since I opened it I won't be able to do that. So, instead I'll just use the dvd as a coster to put my beer on. Even if I could make Win8 look like Win7 there would be no purpose in doing so. IMHO Win8 is a flop, worse than Vista.

What was wrong with Windows 8 ?

Granted it has it's issues, I don't see why some hate it so much. Over all it was fine. Not super great but not bad or poor either.

I love how closed minded some people can be and how this cycle always repeats. I remember before 7 came out, people were ragging on the task bar. "It's just Vista SP2 with a shiny new taskbar." "They copied Apple!" "Why spend money on such a minor upgrade?" Now it's the holy grail of operating systems. Same happened with Vista (aside from high praise) and XP. Vista has a bad name, but in reality Vista SP2 is similar to 7 in performance and compatibility. XP had lots of issues upon release and didn't really shape up until SP2, with fixes and when hardware and drivers had all caught up. Wait, like vista? What?

What will happen when Windows 9 rolls around? The same thing. It will be lauded as garbage while 8 is praised.

If Windows 8 contained all the features of W7 and allowed you to run the Metro interface if you wanted to there would be little to complain about. However they decided to remove various features like the start button, gadgets, Virtual PC (32 bit version). I remains to be seen whether this was a wise move.
