If MS were capable of explaining how to use their software, sites like SevenForums and EightForums wouldn't exist.

Hi, Mike. Lol! You're dating yourself! Near antique

I didn't know there was a book. My friend gave me a Gateway 2000 with 95 on it. 95 was short-lived for me, for I upgraded to 98 soon after. It was then that I stumbled upon shortcut keys in help files. I always print them out and kept a list on hand. Lol! Then I think it was at Vista I said to myself "Self! Why are you keeping a paper list?!! You have a freaking computer to keep a file on!!"

A Guys (Bill) list in "General Discussions" thread I find is the best. Better than MS's IMO.

Someone please tell me why some of these authors title their articles with such negative connotation?!! Is it that most people are attracted to the negative rather than the positive in the press?

How about "Windows 8 Baffles Some Consumers, But Impresses Others". More realistic IMO.

Perhaps it baffles most consumers and only pleases a few.

I predict the hottest accessory will be the Windows 8 Cheat Sheet, a card that contains all the keyboard shortcuts you need to know along with a diagram of where the hidden hotspots are and a legend explaining what they do. Don't leave home without it!

Windows 8 for Dummies will be another hot item, I'm sure. Subtitle could be "so you thought you knew Windows" ...

I have my reservations about the W8 interface -- for some of the stuff I do it just isn't fit for purpose but for a lot of people who don't run a huge amount of complex applications that I've shown W8 to --they actually like it.

I really wonder where some of these articles come from.

Does this ever remind you of a "Consultancy" called Gartners where their predictions were about what you would have got by random guessing --thankfully they've faded from the picture now.

It's a tough one. Obviously people are biased and have their opinions based on how they use computers and such. And people can be very persuaded based on the way that features and changes are explained to them. For example, Coke Robot loves the OS and it seems nearly every person he shows it to, thinks it's pure gold. I on the other hand, like some of the features, but overall dislike the interface and find it cumbersome and confusing. So, nearly every person in my office who has stopped by to see it, has gotten my view points of it and have walked away saying, "yeah I'm going to just pass on that". In my case, the overwhelming consensus is "pure crap".

I don't see any way in which this release won't be confusing for a lot of people. Just in the past week, I have spent hours trying to figure out why the Charms bar sharing in the Photos app wasn't working with the People app to only find that it worked for SkyDrive photos, but not local photos. I worked with R0br on that issue here and it was confusing and seems to be a bug.

I also lost time on a local laptop, where I created a local user account. I then tied it into my hotmail account and my facebook account. Later, I had people at work that wanted to use that computer with the local account, but I didn't want them shooting into my Facebook account. Took me quite a long time to figure out how to remove that Facebook account. I didn't want to remove my Facebok integration with my @Live account, but that's what Windows 8 wanted to do by removing the Facebook account. What I had to do, was remove the Microsoft account instead, which took the Facebook account with it. But for a computer savvy person like myself, who uses Windows and Linux every single day...it wasn't clear or obvious.

It's interestng to note that this thread has now got 1309 replies, counting this one, and in the General Discussion forum has left all other threads a few light years behind.

Of course a lot of it has been rehashing the rehash of the rehash of the rehash ..... ad infinitum! Good for newcomers I suppose and keeps the forum alive.
