This will be Microsofts biggest ever flop, far bigger than Vista.

Windows 8 Early Adoption is Well Behind Pace Set by Windows 7

Windows 8 not at popular as Windows 7 so far

Microsoft has a lot riding on Windows 8 operating system. The software giant is hoping that Windows 8 will bring a slew of consumers upgrading from older computers and older versions of its operating system. Microsoft is also betting that Windows 8 will get a strong foothold in the tablet market as well.

So far, users are currently five times less likely to be running Windows 8 as they were Windows 7 at the same point before its launch. The new statistics come from research firm Net Applications and indicate a lukewarm reception of the Windows 8 operating system by consumers.

I think that when Windows 7 came out many wanted to get rid of Vista at any cost. At this point Windows 7 is still a rock steady OS. Time will tell when/if people will upgrade to Winnows 8.

Not everyone was so anxious to dump Vista and many have gone back from 7 to it! Vista once you got everything together was a reliable OS that got a bad rep from an early start a mistake MS corrected for 7 called the MinWin kernel seeing a more modular rather then bloated as Windows grew too big in size type.

With 8 the problems stem from the drastic scramble up the OS move MS made. While the Charms bar offers so many settings of this or that where did the Control Panel go??? It's a mystery!

Now try and recommend a "Mystery OS" to someone you would like to see move up and out of an older problematic version to a new far more secure and stable OS when you have to take them through a college prep course just to learn where everythine is?!

When simply grabbing a camer show to set as cell phone wallpaper in order to show some people the new look 8 would be bringing in they didn't want to hear any more! Note that's from the typica at home user who checks the mail and really needs a push at times to consider the latest out as a viable option to consider and then be confronted by 8. Negative, negative, negative reactions on first sight!

Now for those who are hobbyists and willing to try anything new for the thrill MS can pass anything their way! "Gee MS has a new Mobile gui for the desktop! Great!" is the thinking there while the typical average accustomed to doing things in the traditional Windows way their first thoughts are what make or break any decistion to even consider running anything "W8"!

And as far as the gui change seen with 8 not only considering the mobile market acquistion MS is focused on you also have to look at how MS wants to bring in a new gui that supports touchscreen technology bringing that even further but at a cost since the way they are going about it will do more to drive sales away from 8. At least there was a "7" before there came a (behind the)"W8"(ball) so people still have a working OS to fall back on!

Just think if there had been no Windows 7 and the next to come was the equal to 8 under a different name how many would think that MS was putting out two bad versions or flops in a row? Can you imagine wanting out an OS growing too big in size without the adequate minimum system specs updated correctly into a what looks like smart phone gui type OS would Windows even sell anymore or would people be looking eslewhere?!

(Hey MS wtf Where's that XP II and III you promised us or ME 10 to come?!)

By building a product that does not make the consumer want to purchase a new PC or upgrade, Microsoft is doing an excellent job in killing off the PC.

I just installed win8 on a vm for the first time.

MS is going to need a video tutorial built into win8 to help people get over the learning curve regarding where everything has been rearranged. Otherwise, people are going to be pissed.

Most people are not that patient, especially when it comes to pc's.

The first thing I hate is all the unnecessary clicking and dragging. Sure, it gives my wrists a good workout. MS should have included non-touch PC exclusive features.

I actually really like the interface. It takes a bit of time to find where everything is at, but "two days" and I am cruising through it. One feature that I REALLY like is that you can right click on the start menu in the tray and get a list of admin tools quickly. This is really well thought out and will come in very handy in an Enterprise environment. I think it makes very much sense for a desktop or a tablet. It is just different and some folks or most don't initially like different. I think this is the way things are going forward whether one likes it or not. Microsoft can stay the same and let other OS's become predominate or change. I think this change is good.

The shortcut for the control panel is on the start page. This is a lot easier to find than it is in other versions of windows. Heck most users don't know where the control panel is on any version of windows. They just use the OS cluelessly.

Yes, I have been saying that for months.

A pc is something a lot of people need , as well as their little portable whatever.

But - if you bought a pc in the last 3 or 4 years - it is plenty good enough - no need to change it.

Portable toys can be easily changed by those on contract at little or no extra cost - that is why.

Win8 certainly isn't going to make people rush out and buy a new pc.
