Of course, no need for a crystal ball to predict that: Who wants a desktop/tower PC with a cellphone monitor screen? The non sens at Redmond is stunning.

If they do this you will see millions of poeple asking for a refund, returning the machine to the vendor, calling helpdesk or the computer stores... It will be an unmanageable situation. MS will be sued for delivering ill advertised products and the EU will fine them double digit billions just for the sake of it. The life of Metro on desktop PCs will be counted in weeks. Everybody will be laughing their lungs out. MS will be covered with ridicule.

Ha. Well I must say it is cleaner, but aero should be an option. Microsoft was threatening to break its glass, but they should've read these forums. It won't be a flop. It actually looks more promising than 7. They're pushing us away from the desktop, now I'm not sure, but will Microsoft change with the final release?

As a cruel trick on myself, about a month ago I installed Windows 8 on my main PC to see what it was like.

    The answer is: abysmal.

I donít think itís an exaggeration to say that Windows 8 is the worst computing experience Iíve ever had. As a desktop operating system, itís annoying, frustrating, irritating, and baffling to use. Iíve tried on many occasions to explain exactly why itís so awful to use day-to-day, and most of the time, smoke starts pouring out of my ears. I thought it would be better to get down exactly what the issues are and why you should avoid it.

    Full article at:
    Why I
Love it! I had to share that one on a social networking site!

Outgrew Legacy to XP then to Vista and it's sidebar annoyance and onto a real "success story" with 7 and was disappointed MS didn't continue to learn at what makes a desktop OS work for people!

As I stated before on different occasions once I got into 7 was that what would come next would be a hard sell. Trashing the desktop concept with a mobile gui only further alienates many away from the next version. Some may love the surface changes while others are simply going to hate it! There's no IFs or Wants about it.

I never got the chance to run ME but now regret never having a chance to run 2000 Pro back then. Missed grabbing NT 4.0 for only $5 at a pc show of vendors one time for a look at that one as well. XP suffered a gfeat deal needing a ton of fixes to make it into any kind of working OS without simply being a blue screen special until Vista's delayed launch came along.

The pros for Vista were security, stability, far fewer blue screens!, and smoother OS once SP1 went on. The download side as realized by MS was Windows was simply growing too large in size which brought about 7 and the MinWin kernel for a much better ride on the MS train! 8 on the other hand is the MS train hitting a derailment! "The Great Mobile Experiment" will be a real test if MS can actually pull it off and turn 8 into any kind of real success story while the outlooks are gloom.

Windows 8 is a computing miracle, I really can't see why people are degrading it. It makes Windows 7 look like a BIG step down. Bleh.

Actually it was really good, but it wasn't really supported on the older hardwares properly.

Windows 7 is a reskin of vista with more hardware support.

But Windows 8 is fast out of the box.

Robert, I like your thinking! WinRT is a great improvement, compatibility is the only issue I have faced, but same with all betas

The launch date for Vista was delayed several times under the LongHorn code name and by then OEMs were too lazy to provide adequate drriver support when it was time to see the previous finished and released. It still lacked from being a version that had grown too large in size with the MS minimum recommended system specs were much lower then actual a mistake by MS which made OEMs however happy to cheapen up their new pcs!

Even with XP going from 1gb upto 2gb of ram saw an immediate performance boost as well as seeing the older version run smoother then before! But MS understated the actual needs of the newer version! 7 on the other hand wasn't simply Vista being reawakened but brought in a new MinWin kernel as well as seeing Fat support return which was removed for Vista.

7 is actually the version that runs out of the box while 8 is now seeing the exact same dilemna Vista was in as far as OEM driver support! And the findings here show that 8 only looks like it is starting up faster while all background processes continue to load behind the new Start screen you see first and then onto the desktop which by the extra click on desktop button is enough of a delay to see the rest finish loading.

(If you assigned a password and face the Lock screen everything is loaded before you reach the Start screen! )
