Disabled driver signature enforcement. Didn't get the 'already installed' message for Synaptics but still 'installation failed.' Haven't been able to find a Samsung specific one

Like this for Synaptics - same way you did Intel, but instead of pointing to the folder to install from, you should double click on the SynPD.inf file in extracted x64 folder.

Update driver software | browse my computer | let me pick | have disk | browse

For Realtek card reader - it doesn't get any more simple. Download the only download available at all for Windows 8 and run it.

    Thank you Master Chief.

Realtek has been installed by wizard now.

Re: Synaptics, I uninstalled the driver from Device Manager so can't find it in order to update/point towards Syn.PD file.

Thank you for your patience and help so far, it has been much appreciated.

It's still in Device Manager, even if it's name was changed to Unknown Device or similar. Click on anything at all in it, then click "Action" and then "Scan for hardware changes" to really for sure be able to see it, regardless.

Apologies, still can't see it. It was under mice before but all there is PS/2 Compatible Mouse. The screen does refresh after 'scan' but no sign of it, expanded everything.

The Realtek driver installed through setup but system did not initiate a restart (fyi)

    Thanks

Unable to expand to see the individual file so cannot double click. Tried copying file to a couple different locations. Didn't want to just click OK on the X86 without consulting with you first

Any word on this please Master Chief? Hoping to be out of your way soon

Boot time (non-quick start) is around 3 mins at the moment (no HDD light activity for 2 mins). Also, when awaking from 'sleep mode' cant use keyboard shortcuts on desktop (e.g. clickin on icon then pressing Alt 4 for power)

    Thank you sir

If you look above, it is the x64 folder to install the Synaptics driver from - because you are running the 64 bit version of Windows 8.1:

    Built by: 9600.16452.amd64fre.winblue_gdr.131030-1505

I am by no means an expert in boot times of Windows 8, because I do not own any UEFI hardware and I myself do not even run Windows 8 (I have used it some though.) I can suggest though, to make sure the UEFI/BIOS is set to Optimized Defaults then save.

I would remove this startup item or disable it using Task Manager tab for it:

    Google Update "c:\users\wasif sayyed\appdata\local\google\update\googleupdate.exe" /c Crane\Wasif Sayyed HKU\S-1-5-21-1699152627-3642012173-1828022434-1001\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I would also see if there is an update to this and install it, if so:

    easylauncher.exe c:\program files (x86)\samsung\settings\cmdserver\easylauncher.exe 2032 8 200 1380 05/03/2014 00:35 2.0.0.10 1.52 MB (1,593,976 bytes) 26/08/2012 10:48

    easysettingscmdserver.exe c:\program files (x86)\samsung\settings\cmdserver\easysettingscmdserver.exe 2052 8 200 1380 05/03/2014 00:35 Not Available 75.12 KB (76,920 bytes) 26/08/2012 10:48

Cyberlink software is older, on the machine - probably not - but it may be of some negative affect.

Thank you, I click on PS/ 2... and update driver - i can go as far as the x64 folder but I can't get any further to click on the SynPD file itself. I clicked 'OK' for the folder but simply got 'best driver already installed' prompt. Once I resolve this, ( i remember the PS/ 2 mouse having its own entry AND the synaptics driver until i hastily removed it :S ) I'm sorry I don't understand the 'Built by: 9600...'

I won't come back unless there are any major issues as my system is much more stable now! (I used a 'full shut down' shortcut i created, a bios screen flashes then i manually click shut down.. the next boot is relatively fast even with 'quick' disabled hmm - could a large amount of music software cause slow boots as a principle? BUt i haven't done any music work in weeks aah)

Thank you for the headsup on the other things I can do too, appreciated. I will get on those too independently. And many thanks overall for walking me through remedial tasks the last 24 hours plus. You have alleviated some serious stress and I admire your expertise. Thanks.
