Sure thing - you're welcome. Um, no - that's intended for Intel server boards.

I think this is the one you want: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...adType=Drivers

There are three download options there, and I cant see where they correspond to the driver you said I needed to update. Which one to download? Sorry for the primitive questioning, this is actually as advance a problem I've ever had to troubleshoot (very very basic IT skills)

Download the 1st one shown. Extract it to a folder. Open Device Manager - devmgmt.msc <<< type in Start screen then press Enter. Right click on the Intel storage entry and then choose Update driver software. Browse my computer. Click on browse and then point it to the folder you extracted to.

Continue along installing and then reboot when done.

Machine will be very stable after, as long as you successfully removed AVG as well as we're hoping - so enjoy.

Sorry Master Chief, I cannot find the Intel Storage Entry. The only storage reference is to Windows Storage Controller. Could not find it in System Devices either. Have attached screenshot. Am I being dense?

Thank you Master Chief. AVG seems to have gone and I have installed the new driver.

I tested sleep, and it worked fine on powering up again.

I changed power back to 'quick start'

Shut down was fine. On booting, as soon as the lights switched on, all power was lost and the laptop switched off. I then booted again and it took around 3 minutes to reach desktop (30 secs Samsung screen with turning wheel & then black screen with no activity, but all lights on).

I retried shutdown, which was fine (around 20 secs). Pushed power to switch on, and again, as soon as lights switched on, the laptop switched off. Then I pushed power again, there was no power loss and it took around 3 minutes to get to desktop.

I disabled 'quick start'. Shutdown was fine. Then laptop booted fine without any power loss, and took around a minute to get to desktop.

There has not been any event of power/LAN light being on, but no HDD light activity. Just a little perplexed about why it would lose power twice there + the relatively slow boot time.

I have attached another zipfile for your attention should you need it.

If you can't seem to do these things, best to bring the machine to a friend or relative that may be able to and show them this thread which shows what needs to be done.

    Best of luck.

I am so sorry, I had zipped the folder from earlier in the day. I have attached the zip for what I just did now. It's coming to 2am so it's best I leave it here for tonight. If I have made any mistakes I will come back to this tomorrow with a more IT savvy friend helping.

On booting the laptop again, there was a little delay with the HDD light coming back on. but then shut down was fine again/ and then booted back fine (around 1 min)

Many thanks for your help thus far Master Chief.

Good, good. Things are looking well now. There won't be any more crashes - but if in the extremely unlikely chance one does, feel free to let me know.

Just noticed two more things - Give Synaptics an update:

SynTP Synaptics TouchPad Dri Kernel 25/08/2012 02:39:41

    Drivers ? Synaptics

and update Realtek card reader driver from Realtek's website:

    RSUSBVSTOR RtsUVStor.Sys Realtek Kernel 15/06/2012 06:43:06

    Morning Master Chief,

Actually did this with a more IT proficient person to avoid any mishaps. Downloaded Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition v17.0.19 but installation would not work saying a version is already installed/setup could not finish. Uninstalled the drive in device manager. System restarted. Attempted 'setup' again but got same prompt saying drivers are already installed and then setup could be completed.

Re: Realtek card reader driver, I can't find which driver to update? Especially, as the realtek page instructs to uninstall the driver first.

    Many thanks
