    Windows 8 Scanning drive stuck

I recently received a Lenovo Y510P Laptop and until a few days ago it was working fine. First it started screen tearing on my games but then It got worse. So I decided just to restore all the data since I couldn't find a solution, and there wasn't much in the hard drive that I would lose. After the restore and the restart my computer would load up, and then it would say scanning and checking D, the Drive D. I didn't think of it as a problem at first until it got stuck at 44% scanning, I also left for 8+ hours and no luck of getting to my desktop/login. Sorry I don't know much about computer specs. Also I cannot use the SHIFT+F8 as that does nothing when booting up. I also factory reset from the BIOS button on the side and that didn't do anything either. Please help. Thanks...

But the thing is, I don't have windows 8 as a disc or digital copy, it came installed on the computer. And I didn't buy it, it was a gift.

Also, it's the D: drive not the C drive is there anything else that can skip disk checking, and yes it sometimes gives an option to skip disk checking but it's only a one second time gap. And by the time you see it had already started the check disk.

If you cannot do a factory reset following the proper procedures, coupled with the fact that chkdsk is hanging after attempting same, I'm guessing your hard drive may have failed prematurely. If so, I would recommend you contact Lenovo support directly and work through this issue with them. I assume it is still under warranty because you stated "you just got it." Anyway, here's a tutorial for your edification. Good luck.

Going back to the original subject of the screen tearing. That can be caused by a failing GPU (Graphics Processor Unit), failing LCD panel, bad drivers. I have been finding that the drivers that Microsoft/Windows update is loading, are causing a lot of hardware issues. Rolling them out and installing the OEM or chipset manufacturer's driver usually fixes the issue.

As for scanning stuck during the process. If the drive is failing, it can also cause the scan to just halt, but still appear to be running.
