Search frustration

Hello, I used to be able to do a search and it would stay up as I checked each document to see if that was what I was looking for. Now when I do a search and click a document that comes up, the search disappears and I have to start all over again each time. This is frustrating because I often go looking through my collection of music notation files and have many to go through. Please advise...thanks!

Hi,
Try to delete your file history :)

Where would I go to delete file history? There is no option in this area. There is just a circle search icon and a drop down box to chose files or everywhere.

Thanks for replying.

I am using the windows 8 search place. It's on the right of my monitor.

I am a senior lady...just saying, in case I am not making myself clear. I am a little dumb with computers because there weren't any when I was a kid.

To my knowledge Search will not stay open after you click on any results it gives. I have a better option for you.

Download this: http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.2.1.371.exe

Install the program, type whatever your searching for in the top bar. It will allow you to open each item and remain open until you close the program. :)
Looks like a Senior Beated me AGain :*)

Thank you both. It was really nice having someone out there answering me. Less frustrating and Yahooo for that program. It's the cat's meow. I love it. I will use this a lot because of my life style and how I like to use my computer. You both are royally smart:)

I am a Windows 8.1 desktop user. What I did was to make a shortcut to the desktop and pin it to my taskbar. Upon opening that, I put my search terms in its search window. Double clicking on a result brings up the new item, while leaving the list of found items intact. Also like the ability to right click on a result, then hold shift key + Open file location, takes me to the location while leaving the original search results intact.

Although I also have a "This PC" shortcut on the taskbar, it will search in a lot more places than I usually need (like my backup hard drive) and takes much longer. The shortcut to the Desktop is much faster for what I usually look for. This is especially true if I want to search in 'file contents' which I usually do.

Open the File Explorer, type your search term in search field. You can open files from search results, it will remain open. You do not need to download and install any third party tools or programs for this.

Windows Search in File Explorer searches on the drive or folder which is currently open. If you have a shortcut to Desktop which opens the Desktop folder, only this folder (Users\Your_username\Desktop) is searched but nowhere else. See the screenshot examples below:

Search the whole computer, all drives and all folders and their subfolders:
