Windows 8.1 bios crash?

Hi, I was installing nvidia gfx card update today when my computer crashed. When I went and restarted it and tried signing in I get preparing windows forever and nothing seems to happen.

So I held shift and pressed restart to get to the troubleshoot/bios menu and then click troubleshoot when I click anything in there such as restart in safe mode or open cmd in order to run a scandisk my computer seems to crash and go to a black screen but the blue light indicating power on my computer stays on.

My OS is installed on a ocz ssd and the only thing I can think of is that my harddrive died. Is there anyway to fix this im sure you guys know way more then I do.

Here is a video of what is happening

Thanks

I doubt that your SSD died. That would be too coincidental with your installation attempt. Anyway, did you try to back out that new hardware install and return your PC to the previous hardware configuration that worked?

I wasn't installing any new hardware, I was just trying to install a nvidia driver update for my slied gtx570s and it crashed. I have my windows 8.1 installed on the ssd and the rest of my files on a samsung 2tb hd.

Anything I try to do in the windows bios menu just crashes the PC...

OK, sorry I misunderstood your issue. I thought you were actually updating your graphics card because I didn't see the word driver mentioned. Anyway, your youtube video does not show a true bios view (as far as I can tell). With that said, I would try the following if you have a true bios option available for my suggestion:

Move your monitor cable to the integrated graphics port on your mobo (if available)
Power on your PC and access your BIOS directly from the splash screen (usually an F key or ESC key)
Set your graphics to integrated (if you have such a setting)
Save those settings and exit your BIOS
Reboot if necessary and see if you can get into Windows

I will offer another apology in advance if I'm still not getting your issue and my suggestion is not useful.

If you can put the SSD in another computer, go to \Windows\Minidump and Take Ownership of the folder and then files inside.

Attach the files here and leave SSD in other computer for now.

Before doing that, you might try to set Optimized Defaults in problem machine bios.

(What your video shows is not bios at all. There is no such thing as "Windows 8 bios.")

Bios is your motherboard's low level settings and features for the board to function. It is completely independent of the operating system; any operating system.

I don't have another computer to put the ssd in unfortunatly. I moved my dvi to the dvi output on my motherboard but I don't see a bios screen when my computer turns on and can't access any bios. The computer boots straight into the windows 8 log in screen after about 15 seconds. This changed at some point maybe due to fast boot windows 8 option i'm not entirely sure. I use to be able to access the ASRock motherboard when it showed the screen before windows boot.

Not sure how to access it..

You are on the right track now! However, if you have previously set your BIOS to ultra-fast boot (if that option exists), you will not be able to access your BIOS on boot. To get back the splash screen and normal boot options you might have to clear your cmos to bring your bios back to defaults. Once done, then the splash screen should appear. If you need some help in doing that, we need either the make/model of your PC or the specific mobo you are using (if home built). This will be my last post for tonight but I'm sure someone will step in to help you. If not, I'll respond in the AM.

I reset the cmos on my motherboard and got into the bios and this seemed to fix not being able to boot into safemode and all other options in windows troubleshoot. I went into windows troubleshoot advance repair and clicked startup repar it did some things and then started up straight to a black screen and I can no longer access that menu :/

I also do not see any area to set my graphics card to my integrated graphics card in my bios.

At least we made some progress, i'm going to bed as well but thanks for the help so far.

If you can not find that option in the BIOS you can take video card out and it should boot with onboard graphics.

A good alternative suggestion IMHO! I forgot to mention that I will also need you CPU information because I'm suspecting your CPU would control your integrated graphics options (if you are using a newer mobo). So, depending on the CPU used, you may or may not have that option available (even if you have a monitor connection available on the mobo). Again, a nice alternative suggestion by CountMike!

Alright so I found the onboard video card setting under my northbridge folder in my bios, set it to onboard but the computer still boots up to a black screen after the windows loading log on.

I was able to start cmd and run chkdsk on my c drive which finished in like 10 seconds which I found odd.. I'm currently running it on my D drive and it has another 5 hours.

EDIT: I started cmd through the windows 8 charms menu

Not odd for an SSD because it does not do a traditional defrag. Instead it does an optimization controlled by the TRIM function. OK, I think we need some fresh ideas here so I'm going to leave you to work with someone else from here on. At least you got you BIOS access back. Hope that was some help.

Good luck,

Looks like you are down to drivers for both,, onboard and discrete video.

So I have no idea what else to do at this point, the only two things I have access to is the bios and windows 8 charm cmd.

I tried restoring to a windows update from 2 days ago and the screen is still black on start up after the windows loading logo.

chkdsk returned no errors on either drive and as I can tell I am using onboard video and am connected through dvi to my monitor

When I try that I get

There is a system repair peding which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again.

I can't even restart because after I leave the charm menu windows starts to boot and the only way to restart is by turning off the power..

What happens when you restart the machine and leave it be for 15 minutes alone by itself?

Probably a good idea to clean install Windows.

I left it for 15 minutes and nothing happens, also I bought windows 8 digitally and have no idea what my key is and I don't really want to rebuy..

I tried running sfc in offline mode by typing sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\Windows but I get
Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

I am assuming this is because when I am in the charm menu my cmd starts in X drive X:\windows\system32
