Charms bar and date suddenly appear when typing

    Hello,

This is about to drive me completely crazy in fact I have to resist throwing the computer across the room when it happens. I have an ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1. Every time I am typing the palm of my hand gently touches the synaptic mouse pad which causes the Windows charm bar and time and date window to appear. I have to stop typing and click back in to the document I am working on to continue. I have already gone into PC Settings - Corners and Edges and turned off "Allow switching between recent apps" and "When I point to the upper right corner, show the charms" both of these have been turned off. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening? Thanks for your help.

You need to make the changes in the Synaptic touchpad properties. Or use something like Start8, that you can disable the charms and edges, if all you are doing is working in the desktop 100% of the time.

Tapping, edge motion and edge swipe in the touchpad properties would cause the behavior.

Esc key will rid the Charms Bar.

Is there a way to change the sensitivity of the pad?

I do not think I can adjust the synaptic pad settings. I found the pad properties under devices but I cannot change any of the pads settings like swipes and touches etc. Are these settings adjustable on all laptops or does it vary depending on the particular manufacturer.

Do you use the pad or like a lot of people use a mouse? If a mouse, simply uninstall the pad.

I use a mouse but was hoping I could avoid disabling the pad, it seems like there should be a way to control the charms bar without having to do anything to the pad. I thought the charms bar was supposed to appear when you place the cursor in the far right or far left of the screen, but this happens when the cursor is still in the middle of the screen. thanks

Not all that familiar with laptops. I dislike the touch pads when I use them. Perhaps touching the edge of the pas mimics a finger swipe? The only thing I can think of.

Yes. It has always been adjustable through the advanced properties for the touchpad. The newer version, there is a little gear to the right of the selection, that you have to click on, to make changes for that choice.

Mouse gestures is also another thing to check, since they are associated with shortcuts, such as making the Charm come up. Edge Swipes is also another item to check. I have my touchpad set to disable, when I use my mouse. I hate using touchpads also. Especially due to I have really bad arthritis in my hands, when I have to use the touchpad a lot. The mouse does not bother my arthritis, due to you do hold your hand the same way as you would with a touchpad.
