Turning off the jumping windows feature

How do I find this "feature" in windows 8.1 so I can turn the darn thing off:

Total frustrating not being able to have windows on my screen without them all automatically maximizing! I searched under mouse, and Aero, , but its just not visible to me.

This feature is called Aero Snap.

It is possible to turn off this feature, though the setting to do so is not readily apparent. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Click the Start button to open the Start menu.
2. Type mouse in the Search Files And Programs box.
3. Select Change How Your Mouse Works from the list of items that are found.
4. Select the checkbox for the option Prevent Windows From Being Automatically Arranged When Moved To The Edge Of The Screen.

Thank you for trying but I don't have that shortcut on my IE browser, so I cant even get started.

And Search in Windows 8.1 only searches for apps. So typing in mouse return nothing.

And right click on the new Start button, does nothing as it only looks for file names starting with mouse.

And Control Panel ,Ease of Access has no such options. that I can find to prevent window's...

This is taking way too long and is really becoming infuriating. I hate Windows 8 - really do. Bad call I made there.

I thought 8.1 (vs 8.0) would address these type of things where Microsoft deliberately hides everything ( took me an hour to change my default printer). I used to be a windows expert, and the office go to guy ; now I am just an idiot now can cant find anything.

These expanding windows are really driving me crazy. "This" close to going back to seven, again !!

The setting is not from IE, its from the start menu. I recommend you install Classic Shell if you can't find how to access it. The program will greatly increase your familiarity with the Operating System by providing you the same start menu found in previous versions.

Additionally, these settings are not available using the settings found in the Metro PC Settings menu. For reference if you ever need to search "Everything on the Computer" you can use :winkey: + S.

Although I have long lost any remaining patience, I do find it insane that this one setting has its own tutorial, and registry hacks, and this many steps, and is buried deep in the OS . How would a normal user even think to know to search for "mouse" or go to Ease of Access ( the irony is killing me) or seek out a tutorial.

With all this help, I finally found the checkbox. But seriously, this is insane.

I concur with your assessment, ie "not readily apparent". This should have taken two seconds.

To each their own I suppose. I'm happy you have fixed the problem.
