Why do I keep jumping to Metro from Desktop in 8.1?

I'm on a 13" ThinkPad X201 with win 8.1 and I spend 95% of my time in the Desktop. I even have Stardock 8.1 and it's set to disable the top/bottom left corner when in the desktop. I have no issue with the right bottom corner charms bar and do use it. But it seems I frequently jump into Metro for no reason. Usually with faster mouse moves. Sometimes it even happens when my mouse moves mainly in the center (95%) of the screen. Is this suppose to happen? How do I turn off ever jumping to Metro when my mouse moves anywhere on the desktop except to BR corner for the Charms bar? I'm willing to give up Stardock for a good solution that still leaves me a win 7 type desktop start button.

That hasn't happened to me, but I have had some weird things happen when using my laptops touch pad. I had to disable stuff like the three finger jesters and edge swipes.

+1. On my laptop if I'm not using an external USB keyboard, half the time the focus jumps to a different paragraph. It's really annoying. I experimented with "disable touchpad when another device connected" since I use a USB mouse also. But if I do that and it gets confused on a reboot I come up with no touchpad and no mouse connected. It's just way too touchy, so to speak.

For me the edge swipes were just annoying. I often slide my hand across the palm rest until my fingers hit the touchpad to find it without looking. Being right handed that would always bring up the charms bar. Swiping from the top would also bring up the alt tab menu. I ended up turning just about everything off except the two finger scroll. I just use the hot corner when I actually want the charms bar.

I solved the problem with a bluetooth mouse after all these problems with the touchpad. The BT mouse does not void the touchpad. Mine is a 10" Asus Transformer.

My USB optical mouse doesn't void the touchpad either. It's a touchpad option. It's just that if you warm boot, like during an install and forget about the mouse being plugged in, you could end up with the system thinking the mouse is hooked up. I leave the touchpad enabled and just try not to touch it. I hate using built in keyboard anyway. With external USB keyboard it's not an issue. But I don't always have room to use it, even though it's a mini.

My ASUS laptops touchpad has that auto disable if mouse detected option too. It switched off when it shouldn't have too. I use the touchpad from time to time depending on what I'm doing and how long I'll be. If I'm going to be at it for a while I plug in my wireless trackball and use that.

I know what you are talking about. These little keyboards are not the cream of the crop. But my typing is so slow, it does not really matter. For the wife I got a BT keyboard. She is a fast typist. But then she was too far away from the 10" screen. So I attached it to a 19" flatscreen TV that I had in the basement gathering dust. Now it's like a real desktop simulated by a tablet.

Sounds cool. I swear if I get set up with a "computer room" in my next place I'll only have big desks/benches, plenty of room, no capret to chok me with dust, at least a dozen machines networked and 5 flavors of OS. It's about time I tried some of the new Linux distros, virtual machines etc..

No more 2 PCs and a kvma switch.

Why don't you run some Linux distros in virtual on your current systems. I have 6 right now. Works great. Made a little package that gives you all the 'how to' information. See here.
