Why do I keep jumping to Metro from Desktop in 8.1?

I've used about 4 different BT mice with my laptop (currently using an MS Sculpt Comfort mouse) and they all disable the built-in trackpad. If the trackpad isn't being disabled when a BT mouse connects, I don't believe the issue is with the mouse but with the trackpad software.

I use Win 8.1 on a laptop, netbook and a tablet and have never had them jump unexpectedly into Metro simply from moving the mouse around on the screen. Is it possible that you have clicked on a file whose extension is defaulted to open using a Metro app?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm very cautious right now since I don't have another machine to bail me out with downloads or even internet search. First thing I want to try though is W7 to see how it looks on this Laptop. But even there messing with the boot mode etc. with no backup is hairy.

Make an image and create the restore CD. Then you can always go back.
