I dunno. I just trusted that the original Alienware team would know what they're doing. I don't see many complaints about it online about their products. Though, the high overclocking still, of course, draws a lot of attention when troubleshooting any issue. The issue has however, time and time again, turned out to be unrelated to OC.

Ok. You have the computer thinking a device is disconnecting and then reconnecting. That's precisely the type of behavior expected with an unreasonable overclock. Is it guaranteed fact 100% beyond doubt the cause? Can't say that, but can say it is something to pay attention to.

Other than that, another idea is in Advanced Power plan settings: USB selective suspend.

Yet another idea is to try a USB 2.0 port if you have it in a 3.

If using a hub, try without.

I'll try another mouse when I get home and we'll see. I just think it's kinda odd that all was fine and well on Win7 and as soon as I get on Win8 I have mouse problems.

So I went and bought a new, simple mouse. I went with the Razer Krait as it appears to be a cheaper, smaller, and simple mouse. Just the way I like it, I dislike mice that are bulky or have all those G-Keys.

It seems it was indeed the mouse.

By what I can collect from other forums, it seems it wasn't the cable. More, it was just a really outdated mouse and it just didn't work out well for a likely range of reasons. It probably just wasn't Windows 8 compliant (seriously, it was one of those default Dell laser mice from 2002 or something).

The mouse still works on Windows 7 systems. It's just not compatible with 8 it seems.

I can feel this new mouse will take some getting used to. But they always do, don't they?

    Just curious.

Did you update all your drivers before & after updating to 8.1 ?

    Especially the mouse driver ?

Everything that can be updated has been updated. I keep on top of that stuff.

The problem with that mouse is it was really an ancient and generic mouse. Drivers for it didn't seem to exist. There was no support for the mouse that I could find whatsoever.

So, basically, it was an ancient mouse - old forgotten tech, and just needed to be ditched.
