Since yesterdays updates in Win 8.1, I have a Skydrive icon in the system tray. Can it be disabled?

Hello Muyfa,

If you like you could hide it.

Notification Area Icons - Hide or Show System Icons and Notifications - Windows 7 Help Forums

If you don't use SkyDrive (soon to be OneDrive), then you could also disable SkyDrive integration to remove it.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/29426-skydrive-integration-windows-8-1-enable-disable.html

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

doesnt help as this does not hide it. It just puts a goofy arrow to it in your taskbar instead. I know me, and many like me want an empty taskbar and have had one. Till now that is. Apparently microsoft doesnt deem this important and just thwaps things down there in an attempt to force using it down our throat.

how aggravating. 20 years with not a single thing in my taskbar but the clock. Just the wya i like it. Until now that is. WTG M$

Yea it's a wonder Microsoft and it's top tier talent and billions of dollars couldn't come up with something as simple as a check box to enable or disable the icon.

I have no problem keeping everything else out of the task bar. Even home brew freeware apps all have a checkbox for that. Whether it be in options, preferences, settings, via right click, or even when closing the app. I've tried it all and some. Even hunted down the process, file, and service. Unfortunately I was unable to do anything but close it after which it re appears when you restart.

I don't mind the folders in explorer, and I will likely end up using it at some point. However whether I do or don't is irrelevant because either way I don't want it in my taskbar! Sigh!

If anyone finds anything or has a line to someone at Microsoft. Lift their palm for them and press it against their forehead with as much force and at as high a speed as possible. Open or closed hand is irrelevant.

If you log into the computer with a Windows Live account, Skydrive has to stay enabled, in order to sync your settings and user profile. That way if you go to another Windows 8 machine, or have to reload the OS on the hard drive, you can easily restore your profile.

We have no problem with skydrive staying enabled, it's the icon in the taskbar that is the issue. (To be fair. Some people don't even care about skydrive period, much less being able to sync settings between the other pcs they don't even have :p)

There is something peculiar about the whole Skydrive/File Manager folder in C:\Windows
In Windows 8 a user was able to uninstall Skydrive and Photos, now you can't; they both reside in 'File Manager' folder, which I've never seen before.
Then, weird stuff happens when you try to delete things!?

Which one is it I should be upset about?

I've got lots - if I hide them I have this - what is the problem? The little triangle?

Hey Adam,

It's the small icon with two small white clouds in the notification area on the right side of the taskbar. :)

I shouldn't play around really when I'm happy with my PC - I've lost my clock now.

I'll sort it out tomorrow or I'll just have to press Win + C. Ho hum.

I do not even see mine, due to it stays hidden. Now if you are running Pro edition of 8.x, you can set to have the task group icons, to not hide when the person is logged into the computer.

I deal with the not able to hide task icons on my Windows XP machine at work, due to some idiot in our state CMS, decided that was the best thing to do. It does nothing, and is actually a Real Estate eater, that you could have one more item on the bar showing, then grouped, or an arrow to the right, to page through the running apps.

Check The Windows Club Ultimate Tweaker out. You cannot change IE stuff, but they have fixed the latest edition to be compatible with 8.x.
