    Differences Windows 8 and 8.1

I have Windows 8 (not 8.1) on my desktop PC. I spend 99% of my time in the
    desktop environment since it's non-touch with a keyboard and a mouse. I don't
think I have ever used the snap features on this device.

On my Windows 8.1 tablets, I can snap my desktop screen with any Metro app and
I have done so in the past. So, my wife was on my desktop PC and she had launched
a PDF in one of the default Metro readers and was wanting to view it while accessing
a spreadsheet in Excel on the desktop. I sat down and thought this would be easy I would
just snap the screens. Now, I was using a mouse because again, my monitor is not touch
screen but I could not get it to snap like on 8.1.

Maybe it was the way I was doing it, but I got the impression that Windows 8 won't snap
the desktop and a Metro screen like in 8.1?

They have improved the Snap view feature in Windows 8.1, the main problem with windows 8 is that the pixel width was pre defined and one of the sides was very small. with windows 8.1 they gave you much more flexibility.

In Windows 8.0 Metro Snap would not work on my 19 inch 4:3 non wide screen 1280x1024 monitors. They didn't meet the minimum screen size requirements. I think its 1366 x 768. In 8.1 they lowered the minimum and now I can do Metro Snap on my 19 inch monitors. Also In 8.0 you can only open one Metro Window on one monitor, in 8.1 I can now open Metro Windows on each monitor at the same time.

If you can set your screen to the 1920 by 1080 rez, then you can use the snap in Win 8 - I thought Windows 8.1 had a better snap built in, you could have more than one tile showing equally in the Tile Area?

I havent messed with 8.1 using that high a res, so I was never able to try it out.

I can snap two Metro Apps on my 1280x1024 monitors, either 50/50 or variable. I can snap 3 on my 1920x1080p monitor. In 8.0 it would nave been one monitor or the other but not both, now I can do it on all three at the same time, 7 Apps total.
