Running service won't start on reboot

In order to run Corel Draw X6 I need a service to run in the background, called PSI-SVC-2, also known as Protexis Licencing V2.

Under Task Manager/Services it's always default set to "Stopped". No matter how many times I set it to start automatically, it always resets to Manual after a restart.

Is there another tweak I need to make to have this particular service run on reboot?

    Hi,

    Yes.

You can set it's "Start" value to 3 in its subkey at this location in Regedit:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services

Then set the permissions on that subkey so that no account can have write access to it.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this suggested fix has not worked and I have to re-start the service after a reboot.

Then the permissions have not been set well and an account altered the setting.

I don't know why you want to do this anyway. Most licensing services only start when they're needed and if your situation was any different, it would have installed the way it is needed to run.

    You're welcome.

I set all permissions to Deny and then the service didn't run, nor even appear in Services. Then I set allow to just my account and wont run on start. What configuration of allow/deny would you recommend?

And the reason I want to have this service run on start is cause it interrupts my workflow when I need to open a file in Corel Draw.

Imagine if every time you wanted to open a document or file and and you click on it , only to be reminded that a crucial component was missing, causing it to crash, then you remember you have to spend extra time opening the Services panel and then locating the service amongst a hundred others, and run it. Every day. Every time you reboot.

    Not permissions on the file.

Permissions on the Registry subkey for the service. Just disable write access to all accounts.

The company did not design the service to be manually started when you need it (a guess, but most likely). Something else is amiss. It probably should start on its own when you open Corel. (Maybe Avast is blocking.)

If you set permissions to deny write access to the subkey to all accounts while also setting it to start with Windows first, that will be a successful workaround.

Another method of workaround could be to place a .bat file in your user startup folder. To make the .bat, open Notepad and put this:

    net start {ServiceNameHere}

then save and rename the file to xxxxx.bat.

Yet even another way could be to make a task with Task Scheduler to start it upon each boot up.

THanks for sticking with me on this.
When I disabled write access to all accounts, the service simply did not appear under Services. It only showed up again when I gave myself write access.
