This service isn't available right now

    Hi,
I just bought my daughter a Windows 8 HP Pavilion 17. During setup, we entered a local password for her account on the laptop. She has not registered a Microsoft Account, so the password entered is a local one. But now, if I try to change the password, I am told "This service isn't available right now - Please try again later". This error has persisted for several days.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks,

Type services.msc in Start, then press Enter.

See if User Profile service is started. If not, set it to Automatic and start it.

If you can't start it, do the same as above for Remote Procedure Call, first.

    Thanks for your reply, MasterChief.
I executed services.msc and found that both the User Profile service and the Remote Procedure Call service were started. The RPC locator service, however, was marked as Manual, so I started it. This had no effect on the problem - I am still getting the message documented above.

Review this tutorial.. Services - Restore Default Services in Windows 8

You will find a list towards the bottom of all the default settings. Check each one to make sure they are set accordingly.

    ectech,
    Thanks for your reply.
I compared the services.msc list against the list in the tutorial and made 11 modifications, which had no effect. l also discovered that I had some services, other than those for HP, etc, which were not on the list and that I was missing five that were.
Then, for no good reason, I clicked on Review your computer's status and resolve issues in the Control Panel. When I did, I was prompted for a password, which I entered. After that, I was able to access the change password screen.
I also discovered that a Microsoft account had been created.
So... my problem is fixed although I don't know how.

    Hi,

I was having problems syncing my OneDrive and googled the issue and ended up here. I just want to thank you for mentioning Review your computer's status and resolve issues. After several sleepless nights, I finally resolved the issue thanks to you!

I was losing the will to live and was on the verge of taking my computer to the laptop witch doctor (they always make my laptop worse) or doing some drastic stuff with my files.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Have a great day, week, year and life in general. Many thanks!
