I don't get why the mobile experience was brought to the desktop. Why not the other way round ? Windows 7 was/is working great .

The only thing i like in w8 is the task manager.

How do they expect people to navigate around without some kind of start menu.

Getting rid of it is complete lunacy.

For those people who only want to do the things you could do on a phone - it is ok.

For the rest of us - it is bloody awkward and inconvenient.

I have tried to get something going - not working pefectly by any means - but at least I can get about. I even managed to fix the boot files on my other HD - after faffing about trying to get cmd to run as admin.

If someone knows how to turn off UAC from within wcp -let me know.

I haven't got the energy to hunt about thru all those metro things - getting stuck in full screens where the only apparent way out is ctrl+alt+del.

In the screenie you can see all those things under the start orb - any way of shoving them over to the right?

Totally agree, I realize it's a preview but to apparently follow a direction of mobile apps and tablets and abandon the PC Desktop market is unthinkable to me. All the crap MS moved causing me to go on a search mission to find and drag or pin all the stuff I want in one place is quite annoying.

After the 3rd attempt, I got this installed. The two prior attempts resulted in the OS locking up when I tried to input my network p/w. Locked up each time at the same place. Ending up by-passing that input screen and waiting till the OS was completely installed. There was no problem after that.

You can customise the Vista start menu by going to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. Create your own folders, etc. Vista Start Menu will pick up your mods straightaway. Or you can make a shortcut from that folder to your desktop.

    Thank goodness for vistastart!
Really metro is a mess on the desktop...its so fiddly trying to get to programes.
I have created a shortcut for vistastart and changed the icon to a windows logo and pinned it to the far left of the taskbar! much better now :-)

Vista Start is a nice addition. Unfortunately it is a bit dark for me especially since I am only looking at a 16" Virtual Box screen.
