    3. You don't need to close metro apps.
Just press start/click left bottom/left top to leave them.
And it will get suspended after some time.

If you really want to close it without task manager:
Click it's top and move it to the bottom. (like throwing it to the bottom)

You have a Start button? How did you manage to get that to show up?
Cursor bottom left and right click

I completely uninstalled my onboard sound.
The driver wouldn't install from the CD, but I could install it if I used "Device Manager".
In fact no drivers would install from the CD.
I downloaded a newer(?) driver from the Internet, but it made no difference.

Trying to find the Windows tools was a nightmare too.
You have to know the exact name, or they won't appear in the search results.

So far the CP has been more disappointing, than the DP.

Does anyone think that I could copy some files from the DP, to the CP, to fix the problem?
If so, which files would I need to locate?

    That's not much use.

It doesn't have enough functions as far as I can see.

I have resorted to using the oddly named Vista start menu - a blessed relief.

Vista Start Menu – Convenient alternative to Start menu

MS know a lot of people were using the rp registry hack on WDP

They know people want to have those functions.

They have deliberately removed them .

We all know the sole reason for the metro stuff is to push people to the MS online /cloud service.

It is ok to include it as an option - what they have done here is not ok.

They seem determined to force us to do what they want - where is the choice?

Are they trying to lose customers?

They obviously are redirecting their efforts to the tablet market which could be a big mistake.

I will give it some time but it in no way blew me away as Windows 7 did at this stage. Thumbs down
Jamez, that is quite easy to do, just use "alt" "tab" to navigate between programs.

I don't think they are only doing that Kado.

They are trying to get everyone in the MS clouds.

That is where the big money will be.

    They want to dominate.

That is why Metro is thrust upon you - that is why it is difficult to get rid of/ignore.

They have removed any real choice. That is what is so annoying.

Vista Start Menu seems an interesting idea, might try that.

Well this thing is a mess. I added a Start Menu toolbar to the taskbar and it made no sense so did one for Programs instead but what's with the extra buts that tacked on at the right?
Also how does one close the language bar, it doesn't seem to have any settings, anywhere?

In contrary, Microsoft is just trying to adapt to new game.

They have no choice. They have to force.
Because, if they don't force, people won't move. People are stubborn and always hate changes

It is harsh but it is the only way. If they made it optional then no one would have moved.

If Microsoft doesn't adapt they will lose. They will lose big. They will become next Netscape. They are trying to learn lesson from others. Look at Nokia and Motorola, the pioneers and once the dominating forces of mobile market. They failed to adapt and thus they are facing miserable consequences right now.

As Microsoft says it is Windows 95. Harsh and Big change.. Change that a lot of people hated, but it was the change that had to be made.

In some way it is Vista. Has bad reputation, a lot of people hated it. But it was the major reason why Windows 7 succeed.
XP was outdated, XP had to be killed. But Microsoft was late and to catch up with current technologies they had to make a leap, that created the Vista.

Windows 8 may not succeed. But it will surely put foundation stones to new paradigm change. I can bet that within two - three years majority of new computes in Western World will be sold in different form factors and with touch input interfaces.
And in Windows 9, Microsoft will follow the same idea of metro and stuff. Yet, this time majority will embrace it and love it. Because they would already be used to it through being forced to use it in Windows 8.

Now if it was optional as many people want it to be, many people would opt out of it and it will eventually kill its predecessors and Microsoft itself.

Forcing it may be wrong. But it is probably only way Microsoft can take right now...
