I have Windows 8.1. I also use Start8 so my desktop looks like Windows 7. When I try and clean up the start menu, by deleting short cuts of programs I don't use, like metro apps (PC Settings & Store) once I delete these short cuts I can no longer access PC settings or Store. When I click PC settings in the Metro Menu it does nothing. Same with Store app. If I restore the deleted short cuts to these programs it works again. I've tried to hide these programs from the start menu but that option to hide is greyed out. Does anyone know of a way to either:
A; Hide these apps from the start menu without deleting them.
B. Delete them from the start menu but have them still work in the Metro Menu
Start8 seems to delete the service all together - not just the shortcut. Best is probably not to mess with it. It is easier to customize the tiles on the 8.1 start menu and work with that.
Yes on that short cut. I am talking about this one...See attached. The PC settings and Store short cut. If you delete those from the start menu, the actually .exe for those 2 programs will not load. I want to hide them or move them out of the start menu so its not visible. You can't move them either. You can't hide them, move them or delete them without having the programs they are associate with stop working.
I don't see any way to do this that does not delete more than just the .lnk in the Start menu. When I tried to delete Store, I got these:
I'm not sure what the 2nd Are you sure window was referring to, the link or something else.
Hmm, interesting. I was able to drag Store to my Desktop using the left mouse button. That removed it from teh Start menu. I was also able to drag it back to the Start menu.
To get the .lnk back, maybe you could create a new link with the following properties????
