Waking laptop from sleep with lid closed

I have to admit I was sceptical about Bitdefender, but while resetting the ext screen resolution yet again, Bit Defender crashed with an error message. First time ever an a/v crashed on me, and its the first and last time this one did.

I guess I just needed an excuse to lose it, so its gone. I'm back with default built in MS protection for now (and not planning to retry BD).

And no, it didn't made a difference.

After 3 weeks of looking everywhere, this is harder than I thought. Acer tech support proved hopelessly useless.

I was considering buying one of those rc6 infra red receiver-remote control as a last resort, but I'm sceptical this would work; after all, it would be plugged in to the same usb port already known not to work with my bluetooth dongle.

How much room do you have where the laptop is stored? You may only have to open the lid an inch or two to trip the switch.

For now, I have enough room on the lower furniture shelf to leave the lid completely open, which is a good thing.
If I wake the laptop before the tv is on (or switched to right input), I suffer a M$ detection bug; Windows re-enable the laptop built in screen, disable ext display in the process + totally messes up resolution & icons position.

I know I need tv already turned on and switched to hdmi-2 before waking the laptop, but it is still a little blurry for my wife.

I am thinking more and more wireless hdmi; I would be able to place the laptop near the couch instead of tucked away deep under the tv, 6" from the floor.

Screen lid almost need to be totally upright for me to be able to wake it.
I think I've bought 7 desktops in the last 12 years; this is my first ever laptop, and its probably the last one too. Very frustrating so far.

I just used my spare desktop PC for my HTPC. The manufacturer likely wasn't contemplating what your using your laptop for when they designed it. Using it for a HTPC isn't something I would think many people do with their laptop.

I can spot an understatement when I see one

I was setup with a desktop for htpc for over 3 years before the laptop experiment. I agree desktop are more common for this kind of work (then again, most vertical tower would look out of place). My former huge horizontal ThermalTake Bach htpc did the job, but it was a little noisy in the fan dept, + stuff happenned and I had to put it for different usage I thought a laptop would fit the job nicely: my bad

As a last resort, I just ordered a wireless hdmi device (Netgear Push2TV PTV3000 ), hopefully this will let me use the laptop without having to tuck it away inside a/v furniture
