Windows 8 taskbar issue (Apps wont show)

I've been having this issue since I have installed windows 8.1 that sometimes that opened video games such as Dota 2 would not show on taskbar and I have to alt+tab to get back to see them. I was hoping to find a solution with regard in how to fix this issue.

Some programs open with Hidden Icons. You can fix it by going to Hidden Icons / Customize / and choose Show Icon and Notifications.

Just to clarify programs or Apps? Metro Apps will not show up on the taskbar.

My "always show all icons on taskbar" is already turned on, but still games such as dota 2 or battlefield 4 tend to "sometimes" not show on taskbar, or sometimes disappearing from taskbar once i alt+tab. Very confused at this point on how to fix it.

That's for the Notifications area by the clock though right? That's not for the Icons on the taskbar that show running programs, the ones next to the Start orb.

If it's set to "Always show" it should show in the main part of task bar instead in hidden icons.

It doesn't do that on my PC. They just show or don't show in the Notifications Area. It doesn't effect the Icon (if there is one) on the main taskbar section.

Right click the taskbar and go to properties. For Taskbar Buttons try "Never Combine" and see if that helps.

Sorry But I dont know which option your reffering to here, Could it be possible to show by a screen shot?

OK, in your screen shot right under "Taskbar Buttons" you'll see "Notification Area" and a Customize button. If you click the customize button a new window will open with options to show or hide the Icons in the Notification Area. That's what I thought CountMike was referring to. If so as far as I know it only effect the Icons in the Notifications area next to the clock, it doesn't affect Program icons on the actual taskbar.
