David I ran both commands and neither seemed to work.

I took a screenshot of the error messages they gave me for good measure.

    First is
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    Attachment 36201

    second is sfc /scannow

    Attachment 36202

In the reply window the images look tiny I hope that's not how they appear in the thread.

I get access is denied when trying to open the log files. Which is REALLY helpful.
A screen shot of the entire dism window would help.

Yes, yes it would. Guess I have to do it again.

And yeah I did. It wouldn't let me do it otherwise.

The sfc scan showed unfixable things.
    That is normal.

The dism command fixes the component store sfc uses to fix things.

It might work the second time around.

Okay, got a different message this time. And for some reason even when I try to fullscreen it the full text does not fit the box.

I've never seen that message before.

    It says to contact Microsoft.
    That's your best bet.

I copied the link for you:

I've never seen that message before.
Probably the least comforting thing I've ever read.
I went to the site, it says lots of words. But I can't really draw much meaning from them.

However, I ran the two processes again. I got the same message from DISM but I was in a bit of luck with the sfc command as I got the response.

"Windows found corrupt files and successfully repaired them"

That's what I like to hear.
So I fixed the computer a bit.

Sorry I never saw that message before.

    The sfc message is good.

Does your computer still freeze ?

Just to check I went back to power options and 'fast startup' was ticked, despite the fact that I un-ticked it. So I un-ticked it again. And I restarted my machine - the restarting logo displayed and then it froze again. Maybe something I should mention is that it does not freeze performing any other tasks just this.

Sad to say I have not fixed anything (well I have a bit because the cmd told me so) but I would like to find out what the deal is with this DISM response. Maybe I should ask at the microsoft official forums? Don't know.

    I read the link info.

You might want to try this:

Open the RUN box--- Windows Key + R

    Type in--- gpedit.msc

    Click OK or press Enter.

Once in the Group Policy Editor see the 2 pictures below:

    Then:

    Then run the dism command.

If it doesn't help you can always change it back.
