I've noticed that notepad opens way faster on 8 than 7. End of discussion.

its just been announced that Microsoft will keep updates/supporting MSE for winxp for another year
I imagine when support for Windows 7 ends - In 2021, as I have heard, THEN they will move to Windows 8.
opps, never thought it was that long away ,I guess that won't affect it

Video conversion tools, compilers, disk scanning tools and other cpu - gpu resource takers will not yield high marks with any OS unless you might be using tesla or revo3x2 hardware.

And what, we have to stop our discussion? What? 8.1 boots in less than 10 seconds and that is irrelevant?
How fast does your installation of 7 boot to the desktop? I would like to know. Tell us.
Compare that with your analysis tool result?

Then a fan of 7 and Linux promotes their choice and declares 8 to be no better?

There is a volume of evidence that 8 gets to the desktop quicker than 7. Linux is irrelevant. It is generally unusable except by geeks. Who knows sudo? How about terminal? Can't wait to seek out dependencies.

So HP wants to bring back 7 to improve sales of hardware and customer satisfaction, fine, but that might not be so good if a customer turns on a 7 machine and it takes an annoying amount of time to boot.

What's the point here? That 8 stinks and 7 is better? Really? How many will soon upgrade to 8 because they don't wish to be less than up to date with what is available?

Geez, if a pc boots to the desktop in 15 seconds no matter what OS, and you can use it in 15 seconds,
and a boot analysis tool says that boot time is extended beyond that time frame, what do you believe?

    Sense of humour failure?

7 boots fast for me. It also resumes from hibernate damn fast. Not that it matters much.

The hiberboot thing is a little trick. Nothing wrong with that. People like small portable devices to start up fast.

The success other tech corps have had with all the information gathering and targeting etc, has not gone unnoticed by MS. They want a piece of the action. That is what 8/metro/little squares are for.

Debating the pros and cons of Windows 7 vs Windows 8 vs Windows 8.1 can be done without spearing our opponents, dontcha'll think?
