Disk Management Problem In Win 8.1

So I got my new (refurbished HP from Newegg) machine Monday. I've spent the week getting it set up and cleaning up the old one for my son.

I noticed tonight while digging around that when I open disk management the window for it states "Unable to connect to Virtual Disk Service". In addition to this a box pops up that states "You do not have access rights to Logical Disk Manager on (my hard drive disk volume number)".

Is this because my machine came already set up from Newegg? Anyone have an idea on how to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Blake

Well crap. After spending a useless hour chatting with Microsoft only to have them ask for moolah... Then registering here and posting... Turns out I needed to reboot because I created a new user. Oh well, I'm sure I'll have more questions.

After loving 7 for several years I can't believe how hard they made 8 and 8.1 to use!

You could try calling the company HP the company that made the computer. I don't know if Newegg offers any support on products they sell. or check the forums at HP's website.

Install Classic Shell or Start8 and 8.1 becomes very useable and is, in my opinion, better that 7.

The first rule of OEM computers is....wipe them out and do a clean install. Well, actually, that's 1B. 1A is to make your recovery discs, so you always have a rollback option.

It sounds like the permissions or user accounts weren't set up properly, and the best way to fix this is a clean install. I usually make the discs, then blow away all partitions, including the recovery ones. No need for them anymore, since you have the discs made, and it gives you more usable hard drive space.
