Thanks, I am still experimenting. Normally I am supposed to be the Macrium expert. But with this Windows 8.1 machine and booting from USB on it I am lost. The Asus people had no idea either, LOL.

    Hi David,

Do you get an extra boot menu entry every time you start the machine - or is it assigned to a hotkey?

EDIT--- It took me a while to figure that out but it works good, like it should.

Good news - I got it to work. I created the PE stick on the Transformer rather than on my Windows 7 desktop. And that worked.

This transformer is a nice machine but a bit finagle. Even the Asus people did not know how to get into the temporary boot menu (usually F12 - but that did not work). I tried ESC (like on HPs) and that worked.

Then I have only 1 USB port (plus the micro USB which is useless because my OTG cable is not working). I was not sure whether I could pull out the PE stick after Macrium recovery had loaded. But that worked and I could plug in my external SSD on which I have the images. I use a SSD in an enclosure (rather than a HDD) because that Transformer and the accessories will be travelling a lot and the SSD is shock-proof.

If anybody knows where I can get a decent OTG cable with a straight plug (not one of those that are at a 90 degree angle), let me know. I checked all the brick and mortar stores, Newegg and Tiger Direct. All they have are those short and angled ones or some that have lousy reviews. I am looking for one that has an appr. 1 foot wire.

I guess if you don't want it any more, you just disable it in the startups.

Why don't you assign it hotkey instead?

    Shouldn't be difficult.
