WCP is just around the corner.Today I shrunk my drive and created 25 GB space for the same..But why is it marked as logical drive instead of primary partition?

I think you were right, Disk management just offer to create basic or dynamic? I don't remember.
There have to be any answer. But if you need it to be primary, go for Easeus or Partition wizard.
I guess you are familiar with them. :)

But the partition I have created is for the installation of WCP.I hope it can be installed on that logical drive.

ho ho :D A week to go, you already reserve the space? That is a good anticipation. Sure you will be able to install it on logical drive, but remember some boot files will be stored to any available primary drive.
Me, I have some old HDD (160 GB). Will install it there. Will let WDP for sometimes as I installed much of my works there.

Hi bagavan,
You must have another Primary partition hidden(System Recovery), maximum 4 Primary partitions can be made in that disk, what do you have in D partition? if they are data and if it's possible transfer them to a folder in C partition and install W8 CP in that partition. I don't think you can install W8 in a logical partition. HTH.

Of course you can install to a logical drive because your Win8 BCD will go to the bootmgr in the 100MB active partition.

Of course you can install to a logical drive because your Win8 BCD will go to the bootmgr in the 100MB active partition.

But the 100 MB is for windows 7 boot loader rite.. will WCP interfere with 100 MB partition then??

On my limited knowledge, It most likely WCP will share the system reserved partition (100mb) of your Win 7(?). Their BCD share a common boot platform. A simple sign I noted when installing WDP over W7, if WDP don't use that system, the system reserved partition is exposed and has drive letter assign to it. But it was fixable to me.

It's only my inconclusive view, I guess. ;)

Your experience was not wrong. If you do an initial installation to a predefined partition, that partition must be primary and active because it will have to hold the bootmgr.

However, in this case on hand there is already an existing active partition to which the BCD cab be added.

If I remember correctly, Disk Management will default to an Extended Partition (Logical Drive) when it creates the 4th partition on a drive. You should be able to convert it to a primary. Also from Brinks tutorial on installing Windows 8 as a dual boot, you just need to have unallocated space to install Windows 8 and it will do what it needs. Check his tutorial on this site for the proper "setup.exe" to use.

In that case i shall delete that partition and create unallocated space.

Another option is just to use partition wizard bootable cd to convert it to primary if you are worried about it. I have a very similar arrangement to you and thats all I did. You are allowed up to 4 primaries.

Well that had a few errors. I shrunk my 3rd partition and my 4th partition came up as "unallocated" but Windows 8 install did not see it. Went back and gave it a drive letter and quick format and it defaulted to a Logical drive also. Installed Windows 8 on it and all is fine.

Yes I saw it and when I saw my partition as a Logical drive I did not hesitate to install on it as I trusted your opinion. My main point was the "unallocated" partition not showing up in the install sequence and also that I had no problem with the Logical partition.

Not sure what you mean by "unallocted partition". I know unallocated space, but that would not be a partition and have no drive letter - thus not showing up. There can also be a hidden partition which is only freespace, but I am not sure whether the installer would pick that up.
