So far, I'm seeing a lot of Google Chrome windows or tabs open. You might check to see if you have any toolbars or add-ons installed in Chrome that may be causing a memory leak by temporarily disabling them to see if this issue continues afterwards.

A process called 'System' is using up the disk.
A process called 'Service Host: Local System' and Google Chrome is using up the Memory.

I have a brand new HP Compac QC58 that came with preinstalled windows 8. I initially wanted windows 7 but none were available. Then I decided to take the plunge and "Update" to windows 8.1. Ever since then my laptop has behaved so badly that I want to throw it out the window. Everything misbehaves. From the keyboard all the way to desktop. Search is TOTALLY useless. I cannot move desktop icons unless I reboot. Boot times are worse than the horrendous win 7 boot times. Keyboard and touch pad have a mind of their own.

My advise is; if you have not updated to windows 8.1 DON'T do it as you may regret it! Sure some people have had no problems but this is little consolation.

PS: in order to make windows 8 functional I had to install third party classic shell and searcheverything. I am sick and tired of the problems I am experiencing with this update. And I thought windows 8 was bad! Windows 8.1 is HORRID!

Any toolbars or add-ons in Chrome?

You might also troubleshoot with a clean startup to see if it may be able to help ID a culprit. It may take a bit of time to test doing this to see if you get the error or not while testing.

Yup. I disabled all unused tool bars and extensions. So far, the clean boot is working well. I will try to find out what is wrong. Here is a screenshot of the task manger after I ran clean boot: Click image for larger version Now, I just need to determine the problem.

Hopefully you'll find it with the first few you re-enable while testing.

Hello all. New member here. I have had an issue with my PC since I "upgraded" to windows 8.1 earlier this year that is driving me batty. Unfortunately, I upgraded the hardware (motherboard, CPU, and RAM) at the same time, so I can't rule out a hardware issue completely. The issue stuck around...

I first downloaded the Windows 8.1 Eval ISO last week when it was introduced. I have since downloaded it several times, both with and without the downloader, on more than one computer. The ISO won't mount. The error just says "sorry, the file won't mount". A couple of times the filename...
I've been looking at the Surface Pro and other tablet/laptop convertible machines fitted with Win 8. The top-end models usually offer only flash memory in stead of a hard drive. The standard 128 GB flash memory available seems hopelessly inadequate for storing Win 8, a full range of programs and a...
After my new build froze up during boot up into Windows 8, I tried to run Windows 8's built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic, extended setting, but it got stuck at 21% of 1st pass (10% overall) after running it overnight (at least 12 hours). I had 4x4GB memory modules, and re-ran this test with only...
