How to get administrative rights for ProgramData?

    Hello,

I have a lot of problems with installing different application like Adobe Reader, Microsoft Mathmatics, it keeps saying I don't have permission to write to ProgramData.

I have tried giving myself adminsitrative rights through the security tab and using the tool Take Ownership. It just wont let me install.
(With microsoft mathematics I have to abort the installing because I can't create a shortcut, because I don't have administrative rights.)

Is there anyway that for gives me administrative rights for all eternity? Because having problems installing a standard programs is getting tedious!

    Using Windows 8 (Not 8.1)

    Kind regards

    Jens

    Hi, Welcome to 8 forums.

Are you logging as guest or admin? If you are guest then you have login from admin account and change the privilege of the users. Follow these steps

Log on to Windows 8 computer with the administrator account.

Click Desktop tile from the Start screen to go the desktop window.

Once on the desktop screen, hover mouse to the bottom right corner.

From the displayed options, click Settings.

From the Settings pane, click Control Panel.

On Control Panel window, click User Accounts and Family Safely category.

On User Accounts and Family Safely window, click Change Account Type under User Accounts category from the right pane.

Or, is the PC on a network? If yes, contact the network support people and ask them to provide the admin rights.

Private PC, and my account is the one I installed, so it is as admin. I'm not logged in as guest, which is why this is so annoying.
I have installed danish language pack.

    I can easily install on
    Programmer and Programmer (86x)

However whenever a program needs to install or access something in ProgramData it gives me the error message with permission.

    Try this,

    1. Left-click on the folder
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Click Security tab.
    4. Click Advanced.
    5. Click “Enable inheritance” if disabled.
    6. Click “Replace all child object…” check box
    7. Click OK.
    8. It may take some time for Windows to change the settings.
