Sometimes, my laptop doesn't shut down completely

Hi, sometimes, when I shut down my laptop, it never finishes. The screen turns off after showing "shutting down", but my back-lit keyboard and the leds never turn off. It happens like 10% of the times.

    What can it be?

I've been told Laptops can get confused if never shut down all the way. For example if you hold down the shift key when clicking shutdown from the power options. If I think I'm going to leave it for the night then I'll do that. The next boot up just takes a little longer. I don't know if it will fix your symptom. But it may be worth a try.

Yeah, I know that when I shut down the laptop, it doesn't shut down as XP or 7 did. It creates a file or something like that and when you turn your laptop on, it takes much less time to load the system. But that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about an issue: my keyboard is back lit forever, and my leds never turn off. It happens just sometimes.

I understand. But I have heard that if you go for a long period without doing a complete shutdown, things get out of kilter. I haven't had mine long enough to know exactly what happens.

If you try to shut down while holding down the shift key, does it complete or same old same old?

I don't know, because the problem appears just sometimes, like 10%. Anyways, that's not a solution, cuz I don't wanna be counting how many times I've done the "new W8 shut down" to know if I have to shut down next time like XP or Vista or 7. I just wanna shut down it as always without any trouble.

So you suggest that it happen to everyone since it's a W8 issue?

I don't think so. Ammm... For example, 2 weeks ago I installed a program that monitors your CPU temps, RAM... It was the CORETEMP. I realized that that program was making my laptop to do this issue MUCH MORE often. So I uninstalled it and now it only happens 10% or so. I don't know what it can be...

This is W7 but it sounds like what you have, except that I get the impression it happens on every shutdown, in the W7 case.

Yeah, the thing is that it normally shuts down correctly, so it's not a permanent issue. As I said, it only happens sometimes, but frequently enough to annoy me a little bit.

Did you try any of the suggested fixes? With an intermittent problem about all you can do is make a list of fixes and cross them off as you try them. Try one and wait until the symptom happens again. If it never comes back you are done.

Ok, but may be someone here knows what is the cause, and that cause must be just sometimes, cause almost 100% of the times I shut it down, it does it correctly.
