Are Win 8 Desktops 8.1 compatible........

I brought a Compaq desktop computer in October with Win 8 installed. Ran it for a month - then upgraded to 8.1 - all seemed ok - Then last week it loaded to desktop with no Icons - Then totally crashed - so I did a factory reset, got back to basic win 8 - but then when I tried to upgrade to 8.1 for a second time - it totally crashed - meaning I had to reset again.

The compaq website says my model hasn't been tested with 8.1 - Meanwhile those nice guys @ amazon have offered me a full refund. In a bit of dilemena as to whether to keep my PC and just run win 8 - not 8.1.

But my hunch is that any pc that run win 8 - shouldn't really have a problem with 8.1 - so my PC has a defect - and I should grab my cash while I can ?

Any comments appreciated...

The only way to be sure is to read your crash dumps to see what the issue is

If I was you I wouldn't take the 8.1 update and wished to god I would of read up on it first before I took that nightmare. read the forums, and google it and read for yourself if you really want to upgrade to the 8.1 nightmare. But that's just my opinion.

If I can get my 8.1 issues fixed I can assure you i will "NEVER" take anymore major updates again from Microsoft for win8

wished I was that lucky. And trying to not sound negative but I wasn't impressed at all with win8 and 8.1 is ten times worse. so trying to not sound growly about something I'm stuck with. Next pc is going to be a mac. tired of microsoft and dell.
But after reading the forums and other people's problem's I would have to say my problem is minor compared to some I have read. Thank god for that at least :)

By the way...Did you hear their planing the release of win9 for 2015?
I read that awhile ago somewhere on line while I was searching for a solution to my 8.1 problem. and Microsoft employees are calling win8 the new Vista.

Since I avoid all of the metro crap, I didn't see too many changes. My wife did have some issues with an older accounting software but I found work arounds for most. Sure, I have complained plenty about some of the stupid things with windows 8 and 2012 but the advantages outweigh the negatives for me. Love Hyper-V and some of the non metro features

I could almost live with win8 (almost lol) but this 8.1 is a nightmare. Thank god my 8.1 problem isn't that bad but there's an issue with it I don't know how to fix and can't find any help on it yet, but it is workable compared to some problems I have read. So I guess in that way I am lucky.

my opinion , most nightmares are cause by 3rd party apps that are not keeping up ,poorly written and such, company behind on driver compatibility ,like the one the OP of this thread is having .I to have put win8 and 8.1 a few computers now and have little or no issues ,even on my 6 or 7 year old Dell OptiPlex. and now on my new noname tower with a ssd drive

I would return it to Amazon and get an 8.1 model. Then immediately make an images to which you can go back in case something happens.
