When are you idiots going to fix 8.1 and make it where it is like windows 7 start button etc.?

I have talked to no one that is a business person professional that likes windows 8 or 8.1. What happened to Microsoft that it is so blind to role out 8.1 without the real fix?

Need to switch it to where I can run metro on a customizable window on my desktop with start button just like windows 7. For metro users they should have an icon to go to windows 7 start button business world.

Just install a 3rd party start menu, classic shell is free, start8 costs $5. After doing that, nobody in my organization has had any complaints with being moved to Windows 8 or 8.1. The biggest recurring complaint I get stems from websites not working properly with IE11.

I don't know if you understand, that none of us here are Microsoft.

We are just people who have installed Windows 8 like you and we get together and talk about how we have it set up and we discuss our problems with it. if you want it to look like Windows 7 just install start8 or classic Shell, start8 is five dollars and classic shell is free.

Actually if you look around you'll find several easily installable modifications and tweaks that will make Windows 8 act a lot more like Windows 7.

On the other hand I agree with you, most businesses don't use it, they don't like it either. As a matter fact my doctors office finally upgraded to Windows 7 in the last year they had been using XP. But this really isn't a place to set up a podium to pound and bark about how bad Microsoft is, sure, we can commiserate with you but it's better to just try to make it work. So if there's anything that you want to get Windows 8 to do just ask and we'll try to help you set it up.

Ummm, we're not Microsoft. This forum is made up of those who are "up to speed" on Windows 8/Windows 8.1 and who are willing and able to help others like you. They're pretty nice too . . . not a single person jumped down your throat for making a wrong assumption about us.

I have received help on several issues and have even been able to give a tiny bit of help on occasion. And that's what Windows Eight Forums are all about.

Aside from the help you've already received, there are tutorials that should help you immensely with whatever you may need to do. It's not always practicable, but if you have a question that needs an immediate answer, try searching the Tutorials http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6795-windows-8-tutorial-index.html. It might save your having to wait a day or two for information you need.

This is the very simplest solution that costs nothing. Just pin things to your Start Screen and use it. If you don't use it, you won't understand it, comprehend it, or like it.

Well many of us don't like this solution. I understand it, I can comprehend it, but I don't like it, and I don't care to see it ever on my laptop or desktop. Simply tolerating it isn't going to magically make it a better solution.

The Classic Shell, ver 4.0 is the latest version of a FREE program originally written to make Windows 7 look and act like XP, for those who didn't like that either.

From the original version, Classic Shell had been enhanced and updated (yes, it's still 100% FREE) to where it can make 8.1 look and act just like Windows 7 or even XP. I especially like that, because I have to set up 8.0 or 8.1 for old folks that are forced to move up, because their old XP machine has shot CRAPS.

With the latest ver of Classic Shell, you can set it to totally block out all the 8.1 Metro Crap.

And, 8.1 can run OLD software that even Windows 7 can't run. MS has built in all sorts of new Compatibilities.

The above pic is Windows 8.1, W/Classic Shell, and the game? Oh, that's an old 16 bit game I bought on a floppy disk, back in about 1992. Using 8.1's built in compatibility mode, that old game runs just like it did on XP, over a decade ago.

With the Classic Shell in your arsenal, you never again have to worry about dealing with "Metro". It's History!

Cheers mates!

"Metro is not good for business and really needs to much more easily done away with for office types asap.

thank you again"

That is why Microsoft left the option to use the legacy desktop, but, unfortunately, didn't give users back the old start menu. As you can see from the many answers already, there is an easy fix for this.

"Need to switch it to where I can run metro on a customizable window on my desktop "

There is no requirement to use the Metro programs. You can carry on with your existing non-Metro products, which can all be windowed in the usual way. In fact, you will find that even the new Metro apps, in many cases, have a legacy alternative, if you browse for them.
There is a program which I used, which will allow you to window Metro programs also, which, possibly, you could find useful. It is cheap enough to almost put it into the "Free" category. It has one or two other minor functions included.

When you say "I have talked to no one that is a business person professional that likes windows 8 or 8.1", that cold be easily translated as "I have talked to no one that is a business person professional that WANTS TO PAY FOR 8 or 8.1". That situation is known forever. thru all he OSs ever. Ad to that general ignorance toward computers and OSs and you are going to be hard pressed to talk them into change unless you can persuade them that they are going to make pile of money because of it.
