8.1: Close-Lid "Do Nothing" Fails. Is there a Fix??

anyone know a fix for this? luckily [compared to some], under 8.1 on this notebook, I DO have high performance plan available and have tweaked it for what I would like to do while the system is PLUGGED IN.
Critical to everything is the Lid Action. I set it to "Do Nothing".
    That is ignored.

Shut the lid, it goes bye-bye. Since 8.1 generally is unreliable re: things Power Mgmt I'm not sure if its sleeping, napping, hibernating, or what, but it is dead and requires a press of the power button to wakeup again.

    all help appreciated

Maybe a setting in the notebook bios?

You could try the "balanced "plan and go through the list manually, or even just try the lid closed action in the balanced plan to see if there is an improvement.

"Since 8.1 generally is unreliable re: things Power Mgmt" What other functions are you having problems with? Perhaps a member here can sort it for you. I have none so probably can't assist.

There appears to be a problem with sleep/power options in 8.1 , I too have issues where even though I have EVERYTHING set to 'always on' , 30 minutes after I leave the PC idling , the monitor blanks off , I've checked everything more than twice even down to going through the registry with a fine tooth comb checking , yet it still happens...

    Drivers.

Most cases it's either lack of update for one or more, or the addition to the system of some 3rd party suspect driver (even for just the new OS) like incompatible antivirus, some old device like a remote, etc...

yep - a friend in IT in gov't confirms... can't force much via Group Policy either but says you can script behavior with powercfg
I am mainly concerned with use [occasional] as HTPC, so working around it with a "Performance" profile that only turns off display and drive... everything else stays lit. That works. the lid-close has no effect [having set it that way].

Wull - are you talking about a desktop/external mon? all the modern monitors I know of have their own power mgmt config embedded, thus turn off if no input change from display adapter. if laptop ... dunno

External monitor , I'm fairly sure it's not the hardware , under Windows 7 with the same monitor/gfx card combo , it never switched itself off...

it's no biggie , I just press Enter and it comes back on , just annoying I can't find a reason why it's happening.

hi guys, whenever a second screen opens in IE10, and you want to close it, Windows always asks "Close all Tabs" and everytime one has to change this in "Close Current Tab". I want the Close Current Tab to be the default forever. Any ideas Jeff
