With my Android tablet I can make free calls in North America and from Europe to North America using the GrooveIP application. And that works very well. E.g. if I call a number within my Florida area code from Europe, I only dial the number - no country or area code. And it deos not cost a cent. From the US to Europe it is 2 cents per minute.
Now the wife got herself an Asus Transformer with 8.1 and wants the same facility. I have seen that Skype is now part of 8.1 and supposedly allows calls to landlines. There is also a program called 'Viper' that seems to work in a similar way.
Does anybody have experience with these programs. The wife wants it mainly to chat with her mom (3 times per day, LOL) from Europe to New York. Her mom could not handle a PC so it must be landline connections.
