Windows 8.1 crashes going into sleep mode

I have a new Asus S400CA that came with Windows 8 and I updated to 8.1 out of the box. The computer crashes when it goes into sleep mode probably 1 out of 3 times. I have tried updating all the drivers, including the wireless driver. I have it set to make minidumps but they aren't being created anymore (last one was on 12/5). Usually I get no indication that the computer crashes but it takes a long time to boot back up, although occasionally it will say Windows encountered a problem and has to restart.

I am also getting a ton of Schannel 36888 errors, although I don't know if that's related.

Sounds as if your upgrade to 8.1 hasn't gone well? Have you downloaded the 8.1 drivers from Asus? Yes some of Asus Hardware needs 8.1 drivers. I'm not familiar with your model But Asus Support Downloads check for the latest in the Win 8 section and Win 8.1 section. I would also check what chipset drivers your on as updating them may help

I have all the latest drivers from Asus. athwbx.sys is for the wireless adaptor. I updated this driver a few weeks ago and it seemed to fix the problem for awhile but then it started happening again.

There aren't even any downloads for chipset under 8.1

Yes that's the way Asus has set up for 8.1 if you don't find a 8.1 specific driver in that section the latest from the Win 8 will work?
For my NB I think the WiFi and Bluetooth drivers were the only 8.1 specific drivers needed. However since I was clean installing from Win 7 HP to Win 8.1 I did need to have all the Win 8 divers ready to install.

If the latest drivers don't help, and your hard drive is not loosing sectors? you may want to consider clean Installing 8.1 Sometimes upgrading to a new OS just doesn't go well.

I am literally having the same issue with my Asus K55N laptop with my wireless adapter. However, your crash dumps differ from mine. I noticed you have VirtualBox on your system. It may cause the issues with your wireless crash issues. Wireless filters included in that software like to cause issues with your wireless drivers. I would remove it and see what happens.

I have VirtualBox installed but I almost never use it, the crash happens a lot. I set the computer to allow it to turn off the wireless to save power in device manager a few days ago and it has not crashed yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Update, update, update, update... You should be able to set wireless power settings any way you like, well, after.

Even if ASUS has no updates for the top two for you specifically, almost always, you can use the same packages from their other motherboards with newer updates. If that drastic step is needed, check on drivers to see if names are same etc.....

I think ATK Packages are in the Utilities section of the downloads, on their site. Could be wrong.

I (think) may have solved my issue like this.

    1. Boot into UEFI/BIOS (through Advanced Startup options)
    2. Disable "Power Off Energy Saving"

I've actually had this problem for a while, I really should have taken care of it sooner. It is mostly because I found ways around it, which probably aren't too good for my computer.
