Hard Drive seemed to shrink from 1TB to 99GB. How to fix?

Okay, so my HP laptop computer glitched up yesterday so I factory resetted it.

Just today, it finished, and I went to install some games on it.

While I was about to install BF4, it said that there was not enough disk space, so I went to my "THIS PC".

It said that I only had 4.18GB available out of 99.6GB.

When I purchased my laptop, it came with 1TB. And I have been using 1TB up until now. But it randomly shrunk by 900GB. WTF!?

PLease help.

I have:

HP ENVY DV7 NOTEBOOK PC
WINDOWS 8.1
INTEL CORE i7 2.40 GHZ
NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 630M 2GB DEDICATED VIDEO MEMORY
AND I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE 1TB OF HARD DISK SPACE!!!

Short form:

Why did my hard drive literally SHRINK 900GB!?:mad::mad:

I think I know what to do but if you're going to recommend it I cannot "expand partition" on the C:\ drive.

BASICALLY, I want to allocate the unallocated disk space with my C:\ drive.

Just make 800gb a DATA Partition, than move your DATA to the partition.

And then when I'm done can I make a special partition dedicated to my game sto make them run faster and sort them out? Or will that screw up things again?

You said you did a factory reset, and just today it finished. How long did it take? If it took more than an hour or 2 there might be an issued with the hardware like the hard drive.

Well I actually just left it on last night then turned off the monitor at the licensing agreement last night. It took around an hour for the full thing. NOTE: I DID use HP Recovery Manager thing.

YOW!

There IS some slack when you format NTFS - a 320 GB hard drive will have about 298gb of usable space.

a 1TB Drive? You get 930 gb of space - On NTFS.

a 2T drive, you get 1.81 T.

So - A LITTLE slack is totally normal, but if you are missing half of the drive, well... Then check for previous installs of Linux, which when deleted leaves a partition unreadable and undetectable by the Windows 7-8-8.1 Disk Manager.
