    location of desktop photos

When I installed win 8 I linked to my skydrive. This used photos from skydrive in the photos app on the desktop. This included pics of my GF. The relationship has since ended and the last thing I want is to be reminded. I've deleted all the pics from my skydrive. I've deleted every jpg I could find on my laptop. I don't use another computer but the pics still show on the desktop. I click on the app and it shows no photos in my photo library or skydrive. Where are theses photos stored please? Thanks Pieter

It's a good thing you didn't tattoo her name on your Forehead. Eh?

Have you tried doing a "Search" for one of those photos, by name.
That should disclose where they are hiding. That's someplace to start anyway.

    Cheers Mate!
(better luck with your next girlfriend)

They were simple img1234.jpg files straight off the camera. I've searched "This Computer" for all img* and *.jpg files. I therefore assume they are being stored as something else or in a hidden file. I'm new to Win 8 but otherwise computer literate. It's probably simple when you know... but I don't. Pieter

Hello Pieter, and welcome to Eight Forums.

When you say the pics still show on the desktop, do you mean as the desktop background image in a possible slideshow, or just files on your desktop?

If they show up as part of your desktop background slideshow, then you should be able to open Personalization -> Desktop Background like you do for changing it to see what the path is for these images like below.

    Hope this helps,

Not the background. (When I deleted the jpgs, these all disappeared.) The tile labelled Photos. Any more ideas gratefully received. pieter

Ah, so you mean that the images are still showing on the Photos app's live tile on the Start screen?

If so, then using the method in the tutorial below to clear personal info from live tiles should do the trick.

Doesn't the photo app and the "pictures" folder store photos in the same place? Or are they stored ins separate places...as I don't use the photo app at all. Just curious to know.

That did the trick thanks. However I'd still love to know where/how the images are stored. One of the things that drives me nuts about macs and why I prefer(red) windows is being able to get down and dirty with the innards. Up to and incl 7 if something went wrong there's a decent chance I could sort it myself. This completely defeated me though. Pieter

Bassfish. That's the funny thing. There was nothing in any of the obvious folders and I could delete all my other photos plus all the saved garbage from cache etc. Over 3000 stored jpg's. I also looked for bmp, jpeg, png, gif and so on. I could find everything apart from the images which had come in from the skydrive. Sky drive wiped completely of images before searching locally. I'd love to know what was going on. Pieter

Great news. I'm afraid that I do not yet know the location of the live tile cache.
