How to install desktop icon on LEFT side of taskbar

    Windows 8.1

I have installed Classic Shell in an attempt to eradicate as much of Windows 8 as possible. I managed to get the word "Desktop" onto the right side of the quick launch taskbar. I have to click on a tiny arrow next to that word. That brings up a desktop menu but doesn't go to the desktop itself.

How can I get a desktop icon (not the word "Desktop") on the left side of the taskbar next to the start button? In Windows 7 the icon was on the right side but I somehow managed to move it to the left side.

I know about Win D and Win M. Those are okay but I'd rather have an icon to click on to eliminate extra keystrokes.

    Thanks!

If you throw your cursor down into the bottom right corner and click you'll bring up the desktop.

Yup, I know about that too. I'm never over on the right sight of the taskbar. I'd like to get the desktop icon on the left side.

Can't you just drag it there? Make sure the Taskbar is not locked then click and hold on the separator (grippy) to the left of the Desktop toolbar and drag it as far left as you can.

    You could google "free icons".
Download one & put it in a folder somewhere & browse to the folder & choose it for your taskbar desktop icon.

    A sample:

The only way I know of is to pin a "Show Desktop" shortcut to the Taskbar, and then you'll have it at both ends unless you can get rid of the other one somehow.
The regular "Show Desktop" shortcut can be found in
    "C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
But it can't be pinned to the Taskbar.

There is another one that can be pinned, however, in
    "C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX\Group1"
It's called Desktop but looks like a File Explorer icon, because it's really a shortcut to File Explorer with a CLSID for the "Show Desktop" command.
Copy it from there to your Desktop, and then change its icon if you want. You can get the regular Show Desktop icon from
    "C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll"
Then right-click it and "Pin to Taskbar."

To get rid of it right click taskbar & choose Properties & Toolbars tab.

Does for me, I just tried it:

I just unlocked the Taskbar then left clicked on the Grippy to the left of the Desktop toolbar and dragged it all the way to the left.
