    Desktop Tile Missing and malfunctioning

My desktop app is not functioning correctly. The tile has vanished from the start menu and search, the shortcut button in my program data is still there, but does not work, and it does not show up as an app in the side bar thingy, it was fine yesterday and nothing has changed since then, it vanished while i was in the middle of using it, can someone help me please? Here is a video of how it is misbehaving I had the same error in the original windows 8 but it seemed to sort itself out eventually, can you guys please help me fix it?

Hello Boi, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since this has just happened, you might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this started may be able to undo and fix this for you.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

This is not applicable sorry because i dont have recent restore points, and it has done it to me before on other computers, so why would a restore point help?

A system restore would take your system back to the state it was on the date the selected restore point was created, and hopefully undo whatever caused this to happen.

Are you having any other issues that may be related?

For now, see if this below may help.

Desktop - Restore Missing Tile on Windows 8 Start Screen

If not, then run a sfc /scannow command to check for and repair any possible corrupted or modified system files that may be causing this.

I have done the sfc /scannow, as well as a chkdsk, and have tried your tutorial, but none of it helped

    Boi,

The Desktop shortcut will not open at that location by default, so there's nothing to worry about there.

Did SFC show that it didn't find any issues?

Did you move any of your user folders or user profile folder to another location by chance? Double check using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to make sure that your "C:\Users\Boi\Desktop" folder is still properly set to be at that location in the registry.

Ah, that would be why this is happening then. Did you move the actual complete "C:\Users\Boi" folder to D:, or just the individual folders (ex: Desktop) to D: ?

If just the individual folders (ex: Desktop), then you could use OPTION TWO below to restore them back to C:.

i moved it using the method in option one, and it was fine for about a month. Why would it do it all of a sudden?

It could have been an update or something that broke the link between them. Restoring the default location should sort it. Personally I would not recommend moving the Desktop folder to another location to avoid this type of issue.
