I have not yet found a good method to emulate the All Programs facilities. Making shortcuts, pinning a program to the taskbar or setting a program to always operate in elevated mode does not seem to be so easy in Win8.

Up to now I do it via the program files or the system32 folder. But that is not really convenient.

A toolbar on the taskbar pointing to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu should work. Because the folder is hidden, you'll have to create a shortcut to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu and link the tool bar to that. Check this out for a more detailed description.

I'll try that when I am back on Win8. Thanks. Not very elegant though. I hope they come up with a direct access to Start Menu.

Been hoping the same. Lately I did manipulate it by changing the value of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\ExplorerDouble-click the key labeled: RPEnabled from 1 to 0.
It now works for me. Just don't know whether it cause any problem to metro app later on.

I think changing that key also disables the new Task Manager and the Ribbons - and maybe some other stuff. Not really the right way to go about it. There must be an easier way. And there seems to be hope:

Windows chief Steven Sinofsky admitted on the blog last year that forcing Windows 8 users to run the touchscreen-oriented Metro - irrespective of whether they're using a tablet, laptop or desktop PC - had angered some early testers."We've seen some small amount of visceral feedback focused on 'choice' or 'disable' — a natural reaction to change, but perhaps not the best way to have a dialog leading to a new product," Sinofsky wrote.

That was what I just found. Things seems rolled back to Win 7. That could be meant that RPEnabled key is key to activate every new thing in WDP. I had toggled it back to 1 yesterday.

Yep, you could use the tutorial below if you like to make doing this easier in a context menu toggle on/off option.

Yeah, Shawn. Hope they know what we've been through. So then it won't be necessary for us to play a trick on it.
