Desktop top left corner - can't put an icon there anymore?

Today, for the first time, when I started my computer, the icons on the desktop (I use the old-style desktop) had shifted such that there was nothing in the top left corner. And I cannot drag anything up there anymore - there's this blank spot where I always used to keep my "My Documents" user profile folder. I turned off the option to be able to point up there and switch apps, and it didn't help. I have googled like mad and can't find anyone reporting this weird issue. Has it happened to anybody else?

    Hello Fotyc,

As a test, right click or press and hold on your desktop, and click/tap on Auto arrange to toggle it on (checked) and off (unchecked) to see if that may help with sorting your desktop icons.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

When they were sorted, they used all the available space. When I turned that off and started arranging them my way again, the behavior returned. I'm now at the point where I have my user folder at the top left and then a blank spot below that, if I try to fill that blank spot the user folder jumps down out of the top left again. I'm going to see what happens after I turn off the computer and start it up tomorrow. Thanks.

In addition, also check the Align icons to grid option if not already in the same menu to see if that may help.

Hi, So instead of explaining what I'm looking at right now I'll post a picture here: 45157 So as you can see that bar there is putting my volume automatically up to 100% every single time I touch it. Also, recently this has made the computer unable to drag the top or side or have any...
Windows 8.1 I have installed Classic Shell in an attempt to eradicate as much of Windows 8 as possible. I managed to get the word "Desktop" onto the right side of the quick launch taskbar. I have to click on a tiny arrow next to that word. That brings up a desktop menu but doesn't go to the...

Hi, every now and then in Windows 8, an application disappears into the top left hand corner of the screen when they maximise back from being minimised to the bottom task bar. There appears to be no way to recover the application, even if I stop it in task manager and start it again. If I click...
Hi, I have an issue with a white rectangular box appearing in the top left corner of my laptop screen. It covers the icons behind it and renders them 'unclickable'. Nothing happens if the box itself is clicked on. It does not stay on top of other windows, just the desktop.
