I have found a way to convert your disk to basic easily. Look up "MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition". It is a paid program, but if your morals are questionable you can get it for free. There is an option to convert your disk to basic which I used! All it took was a restart, and during the restart it did it.

Does it support multi partition disks?

Edit: Whoa, that UI looks pretty much like Partition Magic and as the name of the product suggests, it seems to be another company taking up the torch and continuing development on basically the same thing.

Edit 2: Tested the Professional Edition and when trying the conversion process it refuses to work on multi-partition dynamic disks.

Sorry about that. I had no idea. When I used it I was only on Windows 7 so I assumed it would work for everyone.

Well multi-partition dynamic disks isn't unique to any one O/S afaik. Windows 7 supports such as well and in fact I am indeed using Windows 7 x64.

Multi-partitioned Basic disks, yeah. Multi-partition Dynamic disks however, no.

MiniTool Partition Wizard cannot convert the specified dynamic disk to basic disk. Because MiniTool Partition Wizard can only convert mirrored volume or simple volume that has only one partition.

    OK

then I get the question wrong.

I had a Raid5 (6 ssd's + Adaptec Raid card) and I had several partitions. I never work with only one partition.
But since Dynamic partitions slowed me down a bit, I do not longer work like that.

So, What do I understand faultly?

    Jeff

I add here, Dynamic disks=called volumes.

    Hi there
OK not for installing the OS - but DYNAMIC DISKS are very useful for creating SPANNED VOLUMES. For example say you have 3 X 750 GB HDD's you can "Span" these so windows treats this as "One logical disk" of 2.25 TB (3 X 750 GB). This can be useful for large multi media data bases (Music / video etc) when most software operates in FOLDERS (Directories) and ithe folder size is limited to the space left on ONE volume.

Tip though - when creating spanned volumes with a large amount of total space backup by DIRECTORIES rather than backing up the whole spanned volume and store user data there. I usually use Video and audio files on the large spanned volumes.

    True Jimbo,

but then you get the same problem as with Raid0 right?

When 1 drive failes, bye bye Logical disk.

Then i still prefer to buy a 2 or 3 gb drive and not use Dynamic discs.

My feeling is that one day you will regret this.

    Hi there
just using what I have --seems a shame to waste them especially for data that doesn't change much such as Music and video --and if you have a reasonable backup strategy there's no problem.
