Hello.
I have windows 8.1 installed in both my laptop and desktop. Both of them have the same problem
Hyperlinks in metro tiles doesnt work. For example hotmail hyperlinks doesnt work or skype try to open but fail.
I think the problem occured after a deep registry clean i made but i am not sure.i tried to iuninstall/reinstall the programs but no results.
Any ideas?
Registry cleaners can really do some damage if they are allowed to delete the wrong items. In your case, you might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you used the registry cleaner may be able to undo and fix this.
Unfortunately system restore was disabled for some reason(it gave me an option for one and only restore point yesterday). Moreover i was adviced to put
sfc /scannow as administrator and now i notice that no program in METRO tiles is working(eg skype or weather programs or anything else) .Total disaster?
Is there a registry fix program i can use(i ve tried plenty of them with no result) or anything else to do(e g downloading something from windows update?
Thanks.
If .lnk, then you could merge the .reg file for the listed .lnk in the table of the tutorial below to restore it's default associations to hopefully fix this.
First of all thanks for your help.
I had already set internet explorer as the default browser,.I downloaded and installed both lnk. and url.files.
with no result.
I would like to be more specific about hyperlinks.
In tiles in all of my email clients(eg hotmail or yahoo mail) i can see incoming mails but when these mails contain a link (for example for a product) and click on it nothing happens.
skype also doesnt work but accu weather works properly.
In desktop mode all of them work like a charm.
Any ideas?
Unfortunately no the program doesnt have a "undo" option.
I dont know if i should mention the program nad the webpage i have downloaded from in order to protect others from having the same problem with me.
I called ms customer support service and they suggested to use the original disk and repair everything .Unfortunately all of my programs will be lost.I find that option not acceptable. Is there a reliable registry test (if it is really a registry problem and not something else) to find what is missing?
Actually it is not a retail installation.I upgraded from windows 7 through ms site.
Ms customer support suggested to get an iso disk with 8.1 and repair. However i was informed that all of my programs will be lost something i dont want.
In a future upgrade to 8.2 will my problem be solved.I would appreciate a solution to my problem but for the moment it is not something vital for my pcs health .So i am not willing to make any big changes. But i am very curious if i am the only 8.1 owner with that problem and i beleive if a solution could be found would be helpful for many.
