    Win 8.1 Upgrade.

I this is my first time posting to this site. I just finished upgrading my win 7 computer to 8.1. Everything went pretty good, other than one or two problems. The first is I have no sound. My computer is using Realtek HD audio. I have looked for drivers for it and have downloaded some, without any luck. So I am guess that I have downloaded the wrong ones. If anybody can help, I would appreciate it very much.

Now I have another question. I want to boot my computer so that it boots into the desktop mode. Now I looked on the internet and they tell how to do it. Basically they say check the Go to the desktop instead of Start when I sign in.The problem is, that line is not there. Everything else is just like they show in the pictures with the exception of that one line and i have no idea why. I have tried getting help via ms and that is a waste of time. Again, i can really use your help.

    Thanks,

    chuck

Hello Chuck, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Q1) The latest Realtek HD audio driver version is 2.73. Hopefully it'll work for you.

Q2) You might see if you may be able to use OPTION TWO or OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to go to your desktop at startup.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

I too have the realtek audio HD setup and win 8.1 picked it up. however, there is a driver auto upgrader avail from iobit.com which seeks, finds, downloads and installs drivers for you. Try it out

Welcome I did that iobit.com thing and it tells me that my drivers all my drivers are perfect. But I still have no sound. The realtek drivers that I am using is dated 12/3/2013. 6.0.1.7106. I got this from MSI's web site. I went to my motherboard which is a MSI FM2-A85XA-G85. Then to drivers. and it listed this one. Is there anything else as far as drivers that I should download that I missed.

    Again i appreciate everybody's help.

Well, I just finish upgrading my video driver a little while ago and we are no better off than we were before. Still no sound. No, the speakers are not muted. I did the windows troubleshoot and they told me to plug in the speakers. The computer sees what I have but that is about all. I just don't know what else to do. I guess I could buy a sound card for it, but i really don't want to if I don't have to.

I got it to boot to the desktop mode. Now is there anyway of getting rid of the login screen, where I have to enter the password to log in? I am the only one in my household and its stupid to have to enter the password each time.

    I appreciate your guys help.

First off, I would like to say that I have sound. I did a search and read about somebody that had upgraded and had sound in his headphones but not his speakers. So that got me to thinking without straining my brain too much. So, I plugged in my headphones and guess sound. So I start looking at where my speakers are plugged and and I tried a different port and I had sound.

I also wanted to ask why when I got to this site my posts are not there? The only way that I can post is by clicking on the link in the email that I am sent. No a biggie, just curious more than anything.

I appreciate everybody's help in this matter of trying to get me sound back. Again thanks

OK, uninstall all your sound software, leaving the card in and reboot and open windows it SHOULD pick it all up and auto install.
Control Panel, device manager, sound card, uninstall drivers, reboot.

There is a posting problem with this forum its to do with IE11. I had the same problem on my own forum and installed some text to overcome it.
